Decent 993's at £30k are a thing of the past.

Really good ones are climbing towards £50k now.

Anything low-mileage and low owners will be £40k plus and sell within 24 hours. I know I've been trying to buy one !

Crickey, didn't know they were that daft money , thing is they are all high mileage too as Porkers are everyday cars , never mind , won't bother looking any more !

That is serious money guys why are these so desirable ? Given that they are all bolted together well and look nice.

These are cars that were built to a very high standard and were always at the forefront of performance and desirability.

Comparing them with their peers such as Ferrari and Aston Martin, neither of which are anything like as accessible or usable, their current prices could actually still be seen as something of a bargain.

My opinion is that the air-cooled Porsches still have a long way to go before the prices level out. Buy now while you still can...

Thanks for the lesson in desirability there Mike - as they are useable everyday icons and high milers are they likely to be rebuilt as necessary and continue to be used or do you think they will become investments at that stage.

Peter some wild prices there I had no idea.

I once saw a Red Turbo just like Clippers in a Service area on the M6 back in "Red Braces" day looking stunning and the Reg was UPU 2 I took a photograph and will try and find it sometime.

Well yes - but they will only head upwards so worth a good old think about the long term maybe.

I see a 911S 2.4 Coupe advertised in Motor Sport for auction at the NEC with an estimate of £95,000 - £110,000.

Another advertised for £89,950 similar to Clippers recent acquisition.

I love these earlier cars but they are way out of my league as an early retirer on limited funds.

Anything pre-73 has gone through the roof - even the 912s have increased rapidly. These cars, no matter which model, are the ones that really feel special to me and the top of the pile is the 73 2.7 RS. They say you should never meet your heros but this is one hero that lived up to the hype and I regret not buying one before they went stratospheric.

As has been said, the 993 has been climbing for a few years and whilst good value cars can still be found, they sell rapidly. It makes for a nice daily driver but imho felt a bit like a halfway house between the iconic shape and the lacklustre early versions of the 996. It comes from an era where bean-counters didn't rule Porsche but it does have some silly flaws that are harder to forgive on a car that (to me) feels modern and less classic.

The Carrera 3.2s have also increased nicely over the past five years, with the 1987-1989 G50 gearbox cars often being considered the most desirable of the mainstream versions. As a weekend car, the 3.2s make so much sense - attractive, a slightly classic feel without being archaic and yet a lot of fun to hustle down the road.

When people say "I don't get Porsches", I'm generally inclined to feel that they have yet to drive the right one for them. smile
