sold my 66 911 for 11,000 pounds. (30 years ago) 912 for 6000 pounds (26 yrs ago), sc 8000 pounds (16 years ago)...
loved them all but as I got older I appreciated my 1960 356 coupe most of all for relaxed rewarding driver appeal...I sold this 4 weeks ago for ? ..I'll let that hang...the profit has bought me a brand new all black Morgan 4/4 which I collect tomorrow from Phil Ledgerwood !!!!...only 1 more sleep !!!
Only 5 1/2 weeks from order to collection !!!! Shows still able to get excited at 64 !!!!

Don't really understand the 911 pricing system - it is obviously based on supply and demand and desirability but prices seem to vary a lot even between similar cars.
911 history and ownership is a complicated little sub culture that takes some getting used to.
Check out the Hexagon website - this company seems to be the king of premium pricing in the UK
One thing I have noticed is how gearbox technology has moved on and how we now just take it for granted. The 915 gearbox which predates the G50 can be rewarding and as sweet as a nut to use, but you have to get used to it and work with it or it shows its displeasure.
I still worry abut moving into the wrong gear at speed - the money shift I believe Americans call it!

Furthermore, it is both easier to buy a dud and equally more challenging to understand why one model, which looks almost identical to another of the same era, is priced completely differently. Nuances such as MFI 2.7 and 3.0 non-turbo have become collectable because of other halo models, where they were once ignored/lumped in with the other models of the era. It is both fascinating and a potential minefield; easy to overspend and 'under buy', with plenty of painted-pigs thrown into the mix.
As for the 915, it can be a stunning box and when warm an absolute pleasure to drive. However, as you've alluded to, it can also be a little like the rest of the car, ready to punish you if you take liberties and drive without care and attention.

Thanks for the personal information and the link - I think I'd hire a friend were I to venture into one of these, as Simon says it is very easy to make a big wrong decision in either direction.
They are a whole lot more interesting than Kruger Rands and make all the right noises.
I'm really liking the money shift and "may your God go with you" and prevent you making such a move, don't think DA will mind me using that one.

When people say "I don't get Porsches", I'm generally inclined to feel that they have yet to drive the right one for them.
I am probably guilty of this, i very much like the outer skin of a Porsche, but believe it or not in all my lifes driving i have never stepped into one a drove it, apart from i owned a 928 for a very short period (6 weeks) many years ago.
Now i am in a financial position to purchase, i just cannot get passed that plastic beetle interior
A couple of years ago there was the Cottesloe Car show and there was a collection of Porsches. After we left I followed home a very old Porsche (the maroon one at the back in the photo). I want this car!
A guy I knew bought a 911 coupe a few years back looked a cracker. Month or so later he lost the backend on a damp road, and hit a bank hard. no body hurt. but when he looked at the car he found the roof was held on mostly with plastic filler. A very expensive shock. A absolute rust bucket.
