Anyone know off hand the model of the battery that is in the 3W?
I don't have easy access to my car right now.

The original battery is a Banner "Starting Bull" p/n 530 30. The specification if you are after a different manufacturer is: 12V, 30 Ah, bolt through terminals. Dimensions 187mm L, 128mm W and 165mm H. Hope that helps

Talking of batteries, I can't help thinking that a small gel battery, placed against the left hand bulkhead [on rhd cars] would free up a lot of useful storeage space under the cowl, be a little lighter and last longer.

Has anybody done this, or haven't they needed to replace a battery yet?

In which case, the critical thing is the Cold Cranking Amps or CCI, something that is normally on batteries somewhere, but you may have to do some digging.

Most small batteries will suffice, but cranking two dustbin sized lids of pistons is not easy on a cold wet night..

Add 300A Cold Discharge to the specification then. It should all be on this: http://www.bannerbatterien.com/banner/produkte/batterien/starting_bull/index2_en.php.

I have not had any problems with my cars battery (yet) but I usually leave it hooked up to an Optimate conditioner. I now have a HD rectifier which probably helps too as it has been boringly reliable, the best kind of reliability.

I replaced my battery with an Odessey 925L dry cell. Nearly the same specs and doesn't spill battery acid on the bell housing.

to avoid problems with battery acid must be recovered plastic fittings on old German car battery recycling going, it helps to set a piece of transparent hose to the vent to get under the vehicle
