Statistics aside, my point was to illustrate the madness of the proposed legislation for three wheeled vehicles not a swipe at US gun law. Im guessing irony gets lost in translation.

45 years ago a three wheeler was the only form of transport I could afford as a poorly paid apprentice. My licence didn’t even allow the fourth wheel. This perpetuated the myth in the UK that three wheel transport was only for the ‘great unwashed’ or people with disabilities, and comedy TV characters.

However, all these groups of people, being subjects of a monarch as opposed to proper citizens with a written constitution were able to work out that… (even with a rudimentary education)

Three wheeler = Good
Assault rifle = Bad
Bumper sticker= ‘Don’t Mess with Torquay’ (irony)

I think they take the same view in Australia. Morgan, or the Oz importer, has spent a fortune getting compliance. In Australia it is considered to be a car.

If the US Dept of Transportation or whichever department approves vehicles for the states then would not federal law supercede state law? I know that where pot is legal in the states the Feds can come and arrest anyone associated with with it because federal law stands above the state law.

From what I've read, Elio is not trying to convince law makers that they are a car, but to allow them the right to drive and ride without a helmet.

I think they've partitioned about half a dozen states so far and some have granted a waiver over their helmet laws simply because in essence they look and perform like a car, not a motorcycle which that particular state claims them to be. And hence should be as safe and a helmet is redundant.

I know in MO I called the State Highway Patrol and they said that if it's enclosed, with steering wheel, with seat belts, with windshield and possibly even wipers, if it has three wheels, IT'S A MOTORCYCLE AND YOU HAVE TO WEAR A HELMET. That of course is still the law here in MO.

I would think that a M3W would be just as safe as say a Miata would be, so they don't require a helmet for a sports car that happens to be a roadster.

TX just has that straddle of the seat that's going to be a tough one to get around.

Are there Harley 3 wheelers in Texas? Did I miss something here?
