Just wire brush your steel ones Gerry and paint them silver (or bright red / green / orange / yellow - whatever you fancy!!).

Do the aluminium drums actually make any difference to the braking?

I dont expect any improvement in braking , back in the day when drums were common in competition they would disipate heat better and this kept the drums from distorting , also the weight saving is considerable. These are original Datsun parts from a 240Z and have a good reputation so i don't expect any trouble but there have been several copies over the years which don't fair too well . For me its just cosmetic and a bit of fun fooling with the car Dave

Dave, did the 240Z really have rear drums?? I guess it is possible, it was a long time ago when they first appeared...! Anyway, you are right, the Mog depends largely on its front brakes, the man job of the rears is as parking brakes! But they look really good. Are your going to leave them aluminium or paint them? Depending on the colour of the car they could be red, or black or yellow, or even chromed....

I was going to do the drums on RTA, but spent my free time driving whenever possible. Maybe I'll do the ones on the yellow car - had some bright yellow, reflective, heat resistant, model paint somewhere...

I remember painting my drums years ago with red paint and once dry proudly drove off for a 10 mile spin. Upon my return, the heat from the drums had caused the paint to release and wrap itself around the inside of the rear wheels!

There will be no paint on the drums , I believe all non ferus metals should be in a raw natural state or polished with the possible exeption of bodywork . Oops , i was just thinking of a nice red wrinkle finish on my valve covers Dave

I had black wrinkle paint on my rocker covers. I think it's a rather subtle finish.
