Anti-tramp bar modification
Hi, I got my car back. Maybe you followed the discussion at eMog. My dealer made a modification. It looks a bit "home made" but I have a good feeling about it.

I realise the (single)TB is standard on the roadster. But I also noticed that you broke the original twice. That's correct. I'm at a stage, where I really don't know what to do. My dealer did his best to prevent an other braking. Unfortunately his "best" can be seen on the pictures. I feel less and less comfortable with the modification, and I would prefer to remove the AT-bar, and drive without it while awaiting some kind of solution from MMC. I mean... the first time, I drove a few hundred Kilometers with the broken bolt, until I found the reason for the "clong" sound coming from the rear end. Yesterday I contacted Mr. Baldwin, to get an opinion from him. I guess the time of the year is not ideal to expect an immediate reply. :santa2: I dont know if a single or double TB was standard on the plus-8's and if they suffered the same problems? As far as I know, the Roadster II is the first Morgan coming with a AT-Bar as standard, together with the new 4-leaf springs. The +8 had 6 leafs and these are much stiffer, so AT-Bars have been fitted only after-market, for racing purposes (Please correct me if I'm wrong) Oh, yeah... the Roadster lightweight comes with two Mulfab bars. Salut, Ivo

Please let me point out, that this is an original design by Morgan. It is not an original design by Morgans! These devices have been used on competition Moggies since the fifties and the earliest I can recall seeing one was on Lionel Mayman's "VON777" +4 when campaigned by Mark Ridout. John Mac certainly used them, as did I once! This device on your car looks similar to that made by Pete Mulberry and certainly will reduce axle-tramp under take-off on a circuit, or more usefully, a hill climb/sprint vehicle usually with much harder damping than is now standard on current road cars. If fitted on the current road cars, they will break, period. Here's the CMR system on a 4.5 litre 350bhp +8. I have blanked out the damper on the diff casing, forget that, not required unless you have 550Nm + of torque. The "angle of dangle" of the towers and thus the length of the leading links are critical hence it is not a DIY job! Just illustrated for your interest. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3130/3131786926_e712ee81c2_o.jpg Best regards. Colin.

Ivo, Sounds like you would be better off without the AT-bar, before something else brakes. Still wondering, if yours brakes for obvious reasons, then shouldn't they all brake? (maybe they do?) Or are you using your rear suspension more then others? JT

As mentioned before, I have contacted the factory, and they have a solution. For the moment I'm waiting for news from my dealer, who will get parts and advice from Morgan, and then do a professional repair, and I'm confident, that will last. Salut, Ivo

Hi there Just received my Moggie back from the dealer, the anti-tramp bar replaced, with all parts that go with it. This makes me feel much more comfortable and I'm very confident, that everything will be fine now. BTW, the front bolt was bent, but fortunately not broken. As usually, Mr. Baldwin from the factory was very helpful with this subject, and I thank him very much. Sunny greetings from rainy Luxembourg Ivo

Glad to hear that they've sorted out the problem Ivo, hopefully this time it works without any further problems. Did they update it to the current Roadster spec?

(...)Did they update it to the current Roadster spec? I don't know. They only changed all the components that go with the anti-tramp bar. So at least latest standards here. Not so for the springs. Those remained unchanged. I read at emog, that stiffer springs are being installed now. We shall see.... Salut, Ivo
