Under Tarka's Bonnet
Two Photos showing the installation of Wolf Performance Bonnet Stays on Tarka.
Photo 1 shows the bonnet held open
Photo 2 shows the Stay in its "parked" position.
Both photos give an idea of the tight packing needed to get a big V8 under the bonnet. They also show how the colour changes with the amount of and angle of light.
Photo 1 also shows the installation of the wiring for my Optimate 3 charger: the battery is possibly the most accessable item that actually needs no attention!
As before the stays were easy to install and do their job perfectly!

What's the grey cylinder attached to the cambox cover? Gerry. VANOS activation motor. One on each side. VANOS = abbr. from German Variable Nockenwellensteuerung.. More info here on Wiki: VANOS All very complicated....!

Hi Peter
Your going to have some fun come service time getting to the plugs etc. Time to start Googling 'Hand Yoga Exercises'....wonderful looking power unit isn't it, there used to be an expression on the shop floor for cars like yours....'throw a bucket of water over the engine and it takes 10 min for it all to reach the floor' in other words not a lot of spare room is there......very envious here!

Colin, As you say, there isn't much room, but service intervals are 12 months/12,000 miles. The engine has a cam chain, not cam belts and as with most modern engines there isn't much to do. I'm told that it is actually quite easy to work on the engine. Almost. First, remove the bonnet - 2 screws. Next remove the front cowls - 6 or 8 screws Then remove the wings - 8 screws each side. With the cowls and wings removed access to everything is very easy. Taking the wings off and replacing takes 1.5 hours labour, according to Morgan. About 2/3 hours according to Lawrie. He claims it is possible to change the plugs without taking the wings off. Fortunately plug change is at 100,000 miles. The 8 plugs cost about £100.00! Changing the air filter used to mean taking the wings off, but on the Plus 8s they have provided a removable pannel in the flooe so it can be done easily with the car on a hoist.
