mog box

Have been making a lockable box for the Mog over the dark winter days....next step is oil and wax.....and then lining inside....cost appx £110.00 inc a 1928 suitcase from e bay, and about 10 / 11 hours of my labour...beech ply from packing cases, screws found hanging around and dowel and handrails from a marine supplier...should be worth it for the peace of mind with valuables locked away on tours of Europe

A couple of years ago I was in Life's en route to Windermere.
They were selling a black Roadster that I was looking at.
The owner had a coach-built lockable black box on the rear in place of a luggage rack.
It was exceptionally well made in metal and designed to follow and compliment the lines of the car. It was for the owner to carry a wheelchair so a specific design, and I was told it cost £2000 to be made/ fitted.
It was removable so a rack could be substituted and caps then put into a couple of mounting bolt holes into the frame through the rear panel upper part and fitted into rack mounts at bottom.

There is a thriving market on ebay for old/period suitcases and chests - there are loads for sale in various states of age and condition.

I have looked a number of times for the mog - we are a very specific niche, but can't quite understand why they are so popular.

Some are used as props in theatre, shops etc but can't say I see many on the carousel at the airport.

Missus would be horrified if I presented her with a battered old steamer chest, but they are popular for some reason.
