Thanks for reminding me - I must read my handbook

Yep, it should be in the handbook but isn't, it just says to contact your local dealer. In fact, reading the handbook raises more questions than answers - thank goodness for all of you on here, who can answer the questions.

I can only surmise that things are so vague, with multiple reference to the dealers so that they get a fair crack at the whip with the chance to earn some money out of us, but whilst dealers are useful, is it any better than the old days, when one would just go straight to the factory for stuff and advice?

The problem is that modern batteries last well but seem to go without warning. Either that or the voltage hits a certain level and it all closes down.
The Morgan dealer isn't going to come out in the middle of the night to the middle of nowhere. Likewise a breakdown agency isn't going to get the battery out without knowing how to get at it. Hence referring to your dealer is as much good as a 'fart in a spacesuit' ( TM saying)

Yep, my wifes Polo battery died overnight at the first cold spell. 7 years old.

I understand also that modern cars won't even try to start at below a certain voltage.

As I was away e tyres fitted it at the house for £20 over the Halfords price.

Just a quick catch up to say that I have now gained entry into the axle area by removing the seat, like many things, it's easy when you know how, getting a spanner on the end of the top bolt was a pigs job though, but I did it in the end. For the moment I have refitted the original Bilstein which came apart, but will fit my newly aquired AVO shocks [thank you John] sometime over Christmas, when things get a bit much, and I need to retire to the garage for a while.

I tried Avos on my four-seater. They worked OK with two persons in the car, but with four up and luggage, the original Bilsteins with rubber spring assistors were much better, but still not good enough for speed bumps and poor road surfaces. The solution was a set of air springs and a compressor.

They are expensive! However I did wonder if fitting some rubber bump stops onto the shaft would help, I was surprised not to find any already fitted, especially as the 4 seater may have to deal with quite a lot of extra weight.

Variable weight and limited suspension travel makes it impossible to have a reasonable suspension both for a full and empty car without some kind of adaptive suspension. Either the car is too stiff when empty (like the old 7-leaf four-seater springs) or it is too soft when full.

It sounds as if it needs a set of progressive coilovers and throw away those heavy old leaf springs - finding room for them would prove a challenge though.

Mulfab do a coil over back end, it was fitted to their demo car when it was sale at WILLIAMS a few months back.ps it was a 2 seater.
