Transmission losses are quite high more than you'd think that is why manufactures quote flywheel figures not at the wheels figures generally.

At the wheel figures actually mean something. As it is the real world power you are laying down on the road.

I did replace the stock air cleaner with the "Muscle" air cleaner from S&S. It does breathe easier and respond quicker. Because of the leanness of the air/fuel mix it may be increasing the exhaust temps. As for an increase of hp at the rear, I have no idea.

That being said, the change does increase the likely hood of sucking in more water when out in a chance shower. The stock unit only takes in air from the bottom of the 'hockey puck' which may help in avoiding that.

All things considered I have zero desire in increasing the existing horse power. I can still scratch in four gears, but now I don't. Replacing the rear tire is a pain as it is. It only took a thousand miles or so to learn how not to break it loose consistently!

What's your mileage? Who cares. Is it practical? See #1. What happens when it rains? You get wet.

If I remember correctly, that car was without CATs and would have had the early free-er flowing (and noisier) exhausts. This entirely supports my theory that the power should be easy to get to, given decent breathing.

Out of interest, my car has almost identical performance to my brothers Caterham Se7en Classic, which weighs about 550kg and is supposed to have 100hp.

yes i don't really see any reason to add horsepower with bigger bores and engine mods. i found the morgan was plenty fast. but i might look into a better air filter that looks better on the engine then just a black metal bowl. but who knows after a few years of ownership, maybe a extra 20 or 30 hp would be nice.
