Not saying that they asked for one to be noisy, but I am sure it did come down to money and pushing something out the door. All companies play that game, hence the whole recall process of major manufacturers. What is shocking is that no one has been able to rectify the issue through either Morgan or outsourced manufacturing. Seems most problems like suspension, exhaust, etc. are being addressed by the consumer themselves going to aftermarket.

I understand the 2014 mods doesnt involve an upgraded BB, just a rubber mounting to seperate the noisey gears from the chassis. The part number for a 2014 vs a 2012 BB is the same i understand, my only hope is that improvemnts have been made without much fanfare, needs to be on something costing over £30k.

I doubt it's down to the cost. No one would ask for a noisy bevel box that deteriorates and eventually has to be renewed. Not even Morgan.

Given that some boxes perform much better than others there's obviously a quality issue somewhere in the bevel box manufacturing process.

The sad thing is that Morgan don't seem to care whether it's fixed or not.

Surely everthing in manufacturing has to be governed by cost? Any manufactured porduct canbe made better and to last longer but such quality costs money. Morgan are a low volume producer making cars in the uk so i think do very well on balance. No doubt a morgan made in china would be cheaper but i for one wouldnt want one. Not sure the engineering would be much better either.
I dont reckon the directors are idiots that would wish to damage the brand or play fast and loose with warranty claims. If we wanted mass produced uniform quality i think we would be better off in an Audi or Ford or Kia shrowroom.

They may not be idiots, but the fact is they [i]have [i]damaged the Three Wheeler brand, and are playing fast and loose with warranty claims, by making customers pay, even the reputed cost price, for some replacement parts which should not have failed and were not of 'merchantable' quality.

Whilst the current Three Wheeler is head and shoulders better, many earlier customers are left with a lemon!

I think I'm one of the owners who have made the most kilometers and I still do not regret my purchase, modern vehicles made with a lot of plastic gives me eczema for many years.

the only speculation I've always is my pleasure to use.

Not sure that is entirely true. Morgan just replaced both the front wings on my + 4 due to a failure with the nacelle bonding on one wing. Not a cheap fix. All done with no argument. Credit where credit is due.

Is the 3w run as a separate entity though?

The bb is quaife. Need I say more.
They get hot because all bb's are only 95% efficient. Its part of the drop from 115 bhp at crank to 80 bhp at the drive wheel.

5% of 30 horsepower (when cruising at 60mph) equals around 1kw of heat. Constantly. Even under engine breaking. More during hard acceleration.

Owned as a separate entity. Run together, although it has a separate manufacturing room (apart from pdi) and development team.

And the question is "Why?" It's not as if Quaife is new to this kind of component. There was that period when the ill-advised gunge additive caused failures, but aren't the bevel boxes on the M3W more reliable now, even if they do become very hot?

OK, we have to ask how much the heat actually matters? With the right oil, which will continue to lube properly in high temperatures, is there more damage being done by it running hot?

Having asked that question, I have to say that the 2nd BB that was fitted to my car was quite quiet, but after an hour or so of running at cruising speed, it would gradually get noisier and noisier, until it was as loud as the loudest BBs. Once cooled down, it was quiet again until the heat built up.

Perhaps they need some sort of cooling fins and either ducted cold air or a fan?
