Now I see the GTN as a better buy than an Aeromax if you want to speculate. Had one been available prior to me ordering my series 4 I would have been sorely tempted.

I'm concerned boshly is letting the side down by making such an ultra rare car available on the open market. Surely a call to bonhams would have been in order?

There are some silly prices posted for Aero's at the present moment and this is due to the fact that most cars are in Dealers on SOR-terms, so the Dealers themselves are not under any stock pressure as the vendors bear the cost/risk of holding them.

This S2 was supposed to have been sold in the summer, but at that price (I see they have now reduced it to 53.75k) it will not sell in a hurry imho.

I think that you have been round long enough John to know that there is a big difference between an insurance valuation and what the item or car is worth when you come to sell.

Just try taking one of Madam's diamond trinkets to the local jewellers and try and sell it (if she'll let you ) for the insured value... If that S2 valuation starts with a 5, then forget it mate.

Sorry to say it, but Aero's (and S2's are included in that broad category) are currently affected by the credit crunch in the same way that other big ticket cars are and there are numerous threads on PH regarding this very topic.

Currently two on the market, Melvyn Rutter @ 50k and Berrybrook @ 55k.

MR has had his for a while and neither appears to be rushing exactly off the shelf. Maybe it's the usual SOR problem resulting in these cars being over-priced.

Aeroman I would support this view having seen what happened to the classic car market in the past. I did pick up the phone to question the valuation to make sure it wasn't a typo and also to question the basis on which it was made. At this time I understood they had sold the red car so the valuation had some basis, obviously with it now being back on the market you could question this.

Not really concerned what its worth I've had fun driving it and I might get some money back if I sell it. More than can be said if i'd deposited the money in the Bank of Nomansland.

What he did say was that it was a very rare series 2, which he was aware had a greater BHP than any series to date. But more importantly the valuation was vastly increased due to its previous ownership history.

When I was working in a jewellers (Manager, Kent & Sussex Gold Refiners) the norm for 'standard' items was roughly 'thirds' - if insurance value was 6K, purchase price £2k and retail £4k. For anything that was very unusual (ie modern style & ugly) work out the scrap value of mount and loose stones....

Interestingly both these cars at one time were owned by the same person. The MR one was I think the one famously driven backwards over the finish line by Stig on Top Gear.

The other from memory is a very nice low mileage version and I just wish I had the cash to buy....
