Thanks for all the advice great to know your not alone . I looked through the pics of your car Nigel it looks fantastic I hope I can get something as good as that . You make a good point regarding the warranty issues and after looking on the MMC website used section the prices are not that far away from the private sale cars and I guess there is the comfort of the warranty should the worst happen.

Have you decided or tested yet?
I have to confess that there were some inaccuracies in my mpg calculations for the new plus-4, some fuel went in which I didn't take into account. I get 34 mpg average over the first 2000 km, driving "enthusiastically"

I looked down recently, and found my 2001 4/4 doing 115!! (on a test track of course). Thought I'd better check this against a GPS when i could, and found that when the speedo said 80, it was actually doing 68!!

I am new to the cars, hired a plus 4, and ended up buying a 4/4 because i couldn't find the extra ££ for the plus 4 i liked. Glad i did because at least i have one now, and will get a plus 4 at some point in the future when i have saved up again. Bought from BHM, a friendly lot and came with the peace of mind of a warranty.

Agree about BHM - they have sorted out problems I've had themselves, even when the factory haven't. Always a pleasant experience to visit

Hi Perro, not too far away from me then (Southport), I'm sure you've checked out Life's, thats where I got mine. It took me about 10 months to find A7 YUM, and in the end it was quite by chance, just called in to Life's for a browse (as you do) and there she was in the workshop just arrived for sale.

Anyway I spotted this on the Classic Car web site and thought it might be of interest...it's also in Southport!

As a V6 owner I have the same consuption. This engine is realy economic, and it's a pleasur to do 500km without refueling.

Perro, my advice would be to take the "bigger" you can afford.
The V6 is, well, enjoyable, really

And regarding the motorway, even if it's not the best place for a classic mog', the start after the toll is a great pleasure, which Mrs H3 enjoy the most.
(Mrs H3: "Oh, darling, I know there's a speed limit! But there's no time limit for 0 to 130 km/h...")

Perro - anticipation is an important part of the process. Hope you find the car you want.

Because my car is in a place where speed is a secondary consideration (despite the unlimited speed limit on some roads) I am very pleased to have a 4/4 - good mpg and road tax of £107. I prefer the lines of the 4/4 to the bigger engined cars - the narrower guards suit the shape better to my eyes. But this is very much a matter of personal taste. I must admit I have not tried it on motorways and suspect that UK A and B roads would be much more enjoyable.

I can reinforce the comment that Lifes Motors are excellent to deal with.

I have a recent 4/4 (well fairly recent in Mog terms - 2005) and I can confirm it is perfectly OK on the motorway at cruising speeds of 70-80 mph. It is only turning 3000-3500 rpm or so at these speeds and to be honest I can't see why it would be very different in any of the bigger engined "trads". There is wind noise of course, all part of the experience. It is more stable in cross winds than many saloons. I am getting 40-42 mpg.

In French we say that the best moment (of love, obviously) is when you are in the stairway.
