Today, after a buzz down the motorway at the legal limit, I made a swift exit and stopped as soon as I could to check the BB temperature. Using a infrared thermometer I recorded between 60 and 70 degC. That doesn't seem to be too hot?

The ambient temp. today was only about 7ded.C though.

I wonder what it would be on a 25deg. summer day?

Have you tried putting a black spot on the BB with a marker pen, it will give you a more accurate result than a shiny or semi shiny surface.

Still good news though.

Do you have oil in your BB or the dreaded black goop like I had and many others.

Yes, I had painted a mat black area, but found that the temp was about the same here as elsewhere.

I hope I do not have the 'dreaded black goop' since my car is only three months old - just coming up for first service, on which occasion the matter of the BB and lubrication thereof will certainly be raised!

Think yourselves lucky you are in the UK. Those of us at the other end of the earth know all about parts and delays.
My M3W has been off the road since April/May and still no sign of the parts required to rebuild the motor, It broke a camshaft key way and bearing. On dismantling the splines on crankshaft were deemed to be twisted. The latter probably due to an earlier issue with the compensator.
Total on-road time in last 12 months would be less 2 !!
Needless to say GRUMPY is my constant state !!!!!

Am interested, when you test drive the Slingshot do they issue you with a Cape and a mask, and do you have to wear your underpants on the outside?. :-)

How do you know that he doesn't already wear his underpants outside his trousers and is just getting the Slingshot to legitimise the effect?

Sorry Z, I couldn't resist, we all know you are getting the car first and the u/p's after. :santahohoho:

Paul,

I haven't lost my sense of humor so all is well.

When I take the M3W on a ride...I have to take into account the "what ifs". If I have 3 hours before I need to do something important, I don't have time for a 1.5 hour drive before my appointment...I've got to factor in the "what ifs". Also, when going on a drive any distance from home (over 30 miles), I hook my flatbed trailer to my truck and leave the keys to the truck on the kitchen counter...so if I need to call one of my sons to come retrieve me.

When I receive the SlingShot, admittedly, I'm going to feel like an "action hero" not having to take into account all the "what ifs" or prep my trailer for recovery. The M3W is by far sexier than the SlingShot as I've indicated before...however, if I had to be stranded on a deserted island and had a choice of having a smoking hot blonde beauty queen who was eaten up with terminal cancer or a gal a little homely looking but healthy enough to go the distance, looks aren't really as important at that point. The Slingshot has a face that only a mother could love...but when test driving it, I didn't think not once about what it looked like and was pre-occupied with the fun. It was comforting, actually, knowing I could drive it aggressively without pushing it to an early grave. More and more, I find myself trying to pamper my Morgan as not to give it an excuse....but the bevel box is dying a slow death even pampered.

I can drive an ugly reverse three wheeler that performs well...there's not much I can do with a pretty 3W that's broke...but thanks to the Empire kit, it will steer well coasting to the shoulder of the road (assuming the bevel box isn't locked up)!

I've been hounding my "dealership" about the new bevel box...maybe I'll have a quote in another month or two. My intent is that if I can ever get my hands on the box, I'm going to dissect it to determine if any improvement can be made (better bearings, gear shimming, plating, coating, etc.).

Merry Christmas,

Z

Some Slingshot owners are reporting a "whining, screeching noise from the rear" of their 3 wheelers too.

When the three Wheelers were first introduced in 2013, Morgan made owners wait at least 1000 miles for the BB noise to settle down, and for many it never did, and they had to put up with the noise for that length of time, but is there anyone out there for whom their BB did get quieter over time?
