I'm with you Robbie - this is simply a move to secularise Christmas.

I suspect that although bias against non-Christians remains enshrined in the system (bishops in the House of Lords, programming by the BBC, etc.) everyday society merely reflects the real position – a much wider range of faiths exists (as well a growing number of non-theists), and everyone enjoys a good party!

Hi Robbie

At the risk of adding to the controversy hide since the Bible was not written in English and lots of the spoken word and subsequent written word was Hebrew and Arabic I guess 'Christ' is a form of reference or translation at a later date?

We have always called Christ "Al Maseeh" in Arabic which I am guessing is akin to 'The Messiah' is Christmas correct therefore? Christmas in Baghdad was Eid el Meelad (literally 'the festival of the birth') and celebrated widely.

What I am trying to say is that words all have different backgrounds and meanings to different people. It is the feeling and the spirit in which it is embraced that really counts love

And I echo your sentiments, a blessed and peaceful Xmas/Christmas to you all smile

Cheers

I must have missed something at school.read

I thought Chirstmas signalled the start of the sales in the shops.

Note to self. Take more notice in Religious Education lessons if re-incarnated hippy

Merry Christmas Everyone and hope Santa or whoever you support is very nice to you this year. :xmascheers: :xmastree:

Asbojohn

Thats just about correct, Christmas now starts in September which is when I understand it Jesus Christ was actually born in this case however born of necessity of our retailers, I think he was born in the year 6 or 7 BC, and the Bible (nwer part) was I thought (ready to stand corrected on any of this as always) written largely in Greek about 80AD.

It always seemed strange to me that if Jesus was born on Dec 25 then Jan 1st is in the wrong place, after all he should be born in our nomenclature on 1st Jan 0001AD. The Russians have Jan 7th as Christmas day.

Seasons Greetings to everyone and whatever the fact is I am happy to look forward to a Morganeering year, 100 years of the marque, that's got to be worth celebrating as well.
