It will wash off eventually depends where you spray it i ithink the beading could last you a year inbetween applications i spray the whole car once a year underneath no pitting at all except the usual aero problem areas as previously mentioned unfotunately ali and stainless dont mix and best you can do is contain it and maybe touch up every few years when you get the stone chips on the splitter re sprayed my time is coming

As an avid hater of the dreaded crust known as rust, this thread is of great interest to me...rust is one of the reasons I am currently enjoying an Aero - sounds weird I know but one of the attractions was the minimal amount of steel used in construction.. I have owned many lovely motor vehicles inc Germany's finest, Lamborghini's, Ferrari's etc and have always been devastated by the surprising corrosion that can manifest in a relative short time. In my experience a car can look 'out of the box' new on the top with the complete opposite on the underside. I guess most cars are manufactured governed by costing restraints and where money can be saved it is, with some fairly naff bits of quality especially if out of eyesight.

Anyway, protection and preservation have been of interest to me for as long as I can remember and in my opinion the humble WD40 takes some beating. Ok you have to put up with the oily residue which attracts dust and grime but a quick periodic wipe down and re application is all that's necessary. Another great product is Dinitrol high temp clear wax which goes on and dries like a clear coat thus offering a minimal visual alteration!!

Of course a good careful owner is always going to be paramount re dry use if possible, minimal if any use when roads salty. A good cleaning program and a vital garage component - the dehumidifier..

The Morgan in my eyes should have a good head start with all that lovely alloy and wood and hopefully I won't see the brown stuff for a day or 2 !!!

And one must not forget that the body on a Plus 8 is, at least from the bulkhead back, very much the same as a Roadster. So lots more wood than on the Aeros and a lot less mechanical stuff. I hope this means there is less risk of corrosion.

If I look at our Series 2 there is now some small bubbling around the rear light tunnels and front indicators. To put this into perspective it is a 2005 car. It has done 22k miles and been out in all weathers.

I see a lot of 2005 cars made of steel that have bad rust and need total panel replacement, this just needs a good re-spray.

Admittedly they probably get more use, also in bad weather. I think the conversation around washing it off and de-humidifier sounds like the most valuable step to remediate.

Alistair we have four mki aeros in taff mog one is a very sad but beautifull garage queen the other three including mine have the corrosion as mentioned my frst mk1 the same when i bought my latest car 2years ago it was mint but in those two years corrosion has appeared i live by the sea side and that dosent help matters i was a bit concerned on my first car but not anymore it is what it is

I agree 100%. I'm lucky in that the garage is integral with the house and is normally dry and warm. Nothing rusts..

I sort of wish I could put the car through a car wash where they spray the undersides. I've got a pressure washer, but usually end up soaked...fun in the summer but in winter less so!

I tried washing the underside on loose gravel - I was literally sand blasted...

I did have a US friend who lived in North of Boston, on the coast. He had an old school Aston V8 which was Aluminium and could suffer in the same way.

He was a little OCD. Well a lot OCD truth be known. But its not a slur is it, it's a compliment.

He had a concrete driveway, he got a cutter and put a grove in it. He then glued in a super soaker hose which fired upwards onto the underside of the car. The hose ran to a switch he could lean out of the car and press with his foot.

He would drive up, hit the switch and turn on the spray, drive over and then walk back and switch it off. You could do the same with a low power jet wash, strong hose and thin drill.

That is inspired!

So if the Aero's get these bubbles what is the remedy?
