Is it me or has the BBC news gone down hill, any chance they have a reporter onsite for even the smallest bit of news. This morning more time spent reporting a ship on its side. Yesterday a reporter at the hospital all day where the embola victim is (why if there is no press release from the hospital). If something happens anywere in the world they fly one of the top dogs out can a local reporter not do the job.

I don't think the reporters are sent alone. They probably have an army of camera, sound, lighting and editorial support with them. I remember not so long ago there was an incident in the Lake district when Sky etc sent 15 crew to report and BBC sent 100.

I think there are "local" teams that are used already. In West Wales they are often the ones who go initially to incidents often having got wind of them themselves and not via the national main news system. Local knowledge. I have had contact with a couple, usually reporter with basic camera/ sound assistant at most. We sometimes see estate cars/ 4x4 around with news team logos too. I often wonder at the editorial influence too where "flavour of the month" seems to prevail. When an incident makes national news there suddenly seems to be a spate of similar incidents reported. BBC used to have a small office base in Swansea several years ago but I am not sure if it is still there. There is also a small base for ITV in Carmarthen.(May be ITV Wales but I am not certain. I would not be surprised if there aren't others dotted about. There is a semi major studios in Llanelli for S4C that broadcasts in Welsh live on a daily basis - Tinopolis is it's name, also Llanelli's nickname as the main tinplate base in the world for many years.

It really p***es me off when I see reporters from BBC south east standing in an empty field in the dark reporting upon some trivia or other. How it contibutes to the news (usually just a contrived item to fill the allotted time) I fail to understand.
Why do we even bother with local tv? There is very little of interest - just knocking the NHS, immigrants, or the education system whilst falling over themselves promoting ukip or some minor royalty. If a major news item occurs in the locality its reported on the BBC main news (then repeated verbatim five minutes later on the local). The whole thing is a waste of time and my licence fee.

Maybe that's why I watch the ITV local news. Trouble is, we're between two areas here, so reporting on anything is hit and miss. Local Beeb radio sometimes fills that in...

Rolling news is to blame. It's meant to be NEW...so they have to find stuff or pad it out. A example.... Click here (BBC). Glad I don't pay a license fee any more
