Wow - that must have made quite a pop when it let go!
So sorry you're having such a rotten time with the suspension - and very relieved I've stuck with the Spax with the Comfort kit which is going strong...
Does anyone have the Suplex shocks without problems??
Well I can say that the upper triangle and the (in)famous exhaust header kept everything in place. I can also say that it was indeed scary, it was night, I was on the Motorway and I was cruising at about 140 kmh when it happened. I heard a loud BANG but (surprisingly) all I noticed was that the driving wheel became off centered, meaning, to go straight I had to push the wheel a bit to the left. I immediately reduced speed (not touching the brakes, of course) and asked my niece (was the passenger that day) to glance over and check if anything was wrong. She said all seemed ok but it was undeniable something had happened. I was 5 miles from a service area so I went on, at reduced speed (for a Motorway at night that is ...) until I parked. After I saw what I saw, I called the ACP (Automobile Club of Portugal) and soon I had a flat bed truck and a taxi to take me to Lisbon.
The next day I had all Suplex shocks off the car and all the Spax fitted into it (how glad I am that I asked to take them with me to Lisbon, despite my wife's disconfort with them at her feet all the journey). M3W back to my garage, and ready for more adventures!
PS - As can be seen in this picture. Lots of clearance to the exhausts by the way ...
I had already noticed that you had wrapped the headers, been wondering if I should do the same, but I also remember reading someone with technical knowledge (I think it was Lawrie) speaking against it, in a discussion about Peter B's (Gambalunga) Plus 4 ... so I'm still undecided. Must learn more.
Btw, it takes less than five minutes in idle (starting from cold) to get my headers glowing like F1's exhausts from the old Turbo era ... very impressive ... and worrying.
I hésitate to put it on my superdry I burned my legs three Times but not on the front exhaust but on the rear I do it on my old tourer an i expect to do it on the 75th for avoiding hot under the bonnets.
Thanks! The Suplex suspension kit has been taken out of the car, replaced with the default Spax suspension. Suplex and MMC have both been emailed, I'm waiting to hear from one or both of them.
Just arrived home from another round trip to Coimbra and back (about 450 kms,. "Foot Cruise Control"in the Motorway once more set to somewhere between 130 and 150 km/h (that's between 3.9 and 4.2K RPM) . Have to say the car with the Spax suspension is a lot softer, maybe better for the missus, but ... at low speeds the front body roll is much more pronounced (and the steering heavier), and at high speeds the stability suffers. Highway bumps have an effect on tge steering that I think detract from what was a very stable car at speed.
All in all, there's no doubt the Suplex suspension changes the car a lot for the better. Of course, there's this problem of it actually fitting the car, and also this thing about the self-dismantling shocks ...
