My daughter has a black snake living in the wall around her patio in New South Wales. Although poisonous it keeps the brown snakes away as their venom is poisonous to the brown. The grand kids play and the dog has the occasional bark but the only sighting is of its discarded skin. The brown is the more aggressive to humans.
I have been chased by monitor lizards (no worse than cows), bitten by a spider(no worse than wasp sting) and had a brown snake under the tent alongside the camper.
After a while you get to be wary in certain areas.
