Similar to the people who moved into houses around Exmouth Marina- and then complained about boat engines and rigging rattling against masts in the wind.

Really good to read and hear the 'other' side of the debate, well put and interesting to read. You make some very good and thought provoking points, so easy to jump on band wagons without knowing the other side of the debate. Thank you. Thank you Spanner Juggler. You're comment is appreciated. I moved here 30 years ago with the knowledge of the circuit's activities. However, the activities can change and increase over time so that's where the planning rules come in; they're there to maintain a balance. Jays, I'm not aware of the particular circumstances around Mallory other than it falling into receivership. As for your comments on the riders, the riding standards are appalling and it's not confined to a minority either.

As I understand it, the situation at Mallory was a bit unique. There are long standing requirements (from mid 80s I think) on the operator to do with noise and the previous management largely ignored them!
Mallory now has a new operator so time will tell.

At Oulton, there have been past discussions regarding the placement of earth banking, etc to reduce sound levels. If the previous leaseholders of Mallory have been struggling, it may well be the reason that noise has become a critical issue and I'd have to say that my sympathies would lie with the local authority and residents. That's not to say that I'd like to see Mallory closed of course.
For the last two years, we've had CarFest at Oulton. I was initially horrified as the best spectators are knowledgable race goers, the worst the general public; however, I have to take my hat off to the circuit and CarFest organisers, despite the numbers of spectators and traffic, the congestion and inconvenience to local residents is kept to a minimum.

Same sort of issues to people moving to rural areas and complaining about animal noise and smells. Also moving next to a pub and complaining about the issues...sometimes justified though! The track people need to show some common sense in not overstepping the limits though, the people that aggravate tend to be vociferous so if they have no grounds to argue they cannot win. Noise itself CAN be a danger(I worked in high noise places) but complainants often just don't like the less than harmful levels and consider any noise a problem. I live near Pembrey Motorsports track AND the RAF range so we can get lots of noise but it's never been an issue for me. If you move to a location then you need to be aware of issues, it's now a legal requirement to declare problems to house buyers.... so you should be aware pre purchase.

I agree with Peter J about airfields and I would to add fun fairs to that list too!
Sydney's main airport, Kingsford-Smith, at Mascot has been a 'landing ground' since the 1920s, yet people continue to buy property under the flight paths and then complain about the noise.
And Sydney has a fun fair, Luna Park, almost under the Harbour Bridge which has been there since 1935, yet people continue to buy apartments adjacent to the fair and then complain about the noise.
Sydney motor sport has also been affected with the forced closure of circuits which urban sprawl has overtaken.
It defies logic that these long-established venues can be impacted by recent blow-ins.
Sorry I don't believe I'm eligible to sign your petition, but all good wishes for its success.

I live approx. 5 miles from PEMBREY race circuit. On a day with a west wind I can hear the out and out race cars clearly. this track has some sound banking, but there are still complaints from locals.

Unfortunately the petition is badly worded e.g. there are innumerate - ah, so he can't count then??
I signed this a while ago, but some of it is non-sensical.
David I can see your point too. We've recently had problems at Prescott - mostly with those using turbo power. Our regs have now changed for 2015 onwards after discussion with MSA, don't comply with drive-by noise level and you don't run... Fortunately, we don't have much trouble with drivers on local roads / villages.

I think that overall message here is that there needs to be so reasonable sense and give-and-take exercised!

Road rallies have been going down this road [forgive the pun]for many years. The only way they have survived even in a very diluted form from the great group B days, has been to work with the public and locals. Dont like it but has to be or we can lose it all. Compromise or die. Thats the modern world.
