Also, how many people buying a Morgan for the first time would buy privately from someone they have never met before? Most will go to a dealer. Despite my best intentions, this is exactly what I did when I bought my Roadster because it was the right colour combination. And as it turned out it was the right thing to do (hindsight again!). Dealer specced cars (with the exception of BHM) tend to be conservatively coloured, so usually a mainstream (usually dark) metallic with pale interior, so the unsold new cars mostly fall into this bracket. The theory being that these will sell better than offbeat colours. But personally I would only be tempted by a bright colour with black interior. These are rarely built by dealers. The factory ought to build a set of cars (Eg Narrow bodied Plus 4's)- one of each standard colour, and rotate them round the dealers as demonstrators. Yellow or orange? mmmmmmmm.

One at least. I went to known Morgan dealer when first looking, that was a sufficiently bad enough experience for me to look privately. Strangely the person I bought off had bought from said dealer and his experience wasn't a positive one. My experience is that buying a selling privately with Morgan's and classics isn't like horse trading in the Eurobox market. No hard sell cup of tea chat you either want it or you don't.

Well
I can't comment on that as I bought mine on eBay on a 'buy it Now' or ' best near offer' from a private seller (non classified) completely unseen from a seller 200 miles away
Went down on a train with my trench coat pockets stuffed with bundles of notes
Could have been and probably was the most reckless thing I've ever done
But hey .. All good fun

Just thought that I would look at the effect of RPI inflation on my own +8 which was bought from Allon White's in 1987. The new price was £17,453.
It was sold in 1995 for £17,500, but by then the RPI adjusted figure would have been £25,540. It was sold again in 1999 for £16,500 by which time the RPI adjusted figure from new was £28,330 (and from the £17,500 in 1995 was £19,410).
When I bought it in 2010 the RPI adjusted price from new was £38,290, and currently is about £43,000.
Conclusion appears to be that whilst no one has lost much in cash terms, there has been a real loss due to inflation.

Feel happy every time I drive it, irrespective of the price! (although the justification for a second Morgan was that it wouldn't depreciate and when I retire I can convert it back to cash.....)

So very true sir.
How many things can you keep for so long, take so much enjoyment from and then convert them back to reclaim most of your money.
Seems like fine art, Base metals and Morgans have something in common.

A wife ? Two out of three isn't bad In the case of the wife it helps to apply the base metals (gold platinum and silver) to maintain the other values ?

I have usually found that the base metals are just the carrier medium for other exotica eg Rubies from Sri Lanka, Diamonds from South Africa and the occasional Swiss watch movement. But worth every penny of course

Bought my previous 4 Morgans privately and the current one was ordered through a dealer from new. Would buy an old Ford engined 4/4 privately secondhand again as I have rebuilt most of them. Enjoyed the experience and did very well. I don't count time and lost income when I am enjoying myself either driving or dis/assembling. Not sure about Rover and Triumph but I am sure I could be convinced. I think BMW would have to be dealer.
