I remember Morgan saying that they would build 15 GTN's but as I asked for the last one to be built they gave me number 11 & said they only got enough 4.6 engines to build 11. There still seems to be much confusion but the Morgan 100 Years book says they produced 11.
One of life's mysteries.........

Perhaps Morgan intended to build 15 GTNs but only 11 were produced, which is where the 'plan of 11 but only 9 were built' rumour started? Next time I'm at the factory I'll ask one of the directors.

Also, just my opinion but having driven GTN & Aeromax back-to-back (both manual) I would say the GTN is the better drive of the two. There is not much of a power differential as the GTN has the 4.6 engine vs the Aeromax 4.8 and the GTN's Yoko AO48 tyres make it quicker in the dry. Plus I think the smaller diameter wheels & non run-flat tyres help the ride in the GTN be less bouncy than the Aeromax. Interesting as I doubt many people will have driven both cars. However, and please forgive my assumption, but if you drove the manual Aeromax factory car then this would have been the 57 plate car which was has the 4.4 engine. This was also an early development car but I'm not sure whether that would affect anything else? I believe the GTN whilst a 4.6 was rated at 320bhp (correct me if I'm wrong) and so would put it on a par with the S2 and S3 power of an Aero but not the 367bhp of the S4 or Aeromax (or Dyno special ). I appreciate it's a tad lighter and whilst I haven't done the maths I would have thought the S4/Aeromax power to weight ratio would be higher? The other relevant point is that IMHO there is also a great difference in the two cars raison d'être in that the Aeromax was built as a GT with style and elegance that has not been seen for many years, whilst the GTN was a 'raw' iteration of an already raw 'hot rod' that doffs it's cap towards old English sports cars. Thus the style, elegance, beauty and equipment of an Aeromax against the more brutal GTN. As I said all IMHO as I am a custodian of neither (though as I have mentioned before Brian, my barn is available for storage ) and love them both. Interesting Comparison, nevertheless
Cheers

I'd agree that the GTN and AeroMax have differing core purposes. I see the GTN as the road-going version of the Aero 8 Le Mans racer - in essence, the Aero 8 S1 with a hardtop (you can remove the GTNs roof), larger engine (tuned by Alpina for BMW) and some mild cosmetic amendments (front splitter and black wheels). The spiritual successor of this car would be the Aero 8 GT3 imhop. The AeroMax is an extension of the coach built nature of all Morgans - after all, it was created when one person came to the factory with the desire to create a unique vehicle for his personal use. The roof puts it into the class of GT and when fitted with the automatic (which again, imho, suits the character of the this car perfectly), it really does suit the roll of grand tourer. I would sorely love to own one of each but for completely differing reasons.

Interesting Comparison, nevertheless An interesting comparison BtG, maybe we need to have another TM Dyno Day. Also, the DynoRod Special must be less powerful and slower now it's only got black wings. The GTN may be lighter than a Series I, but Steve Morris says the Aeromax is lighter than a Series IV, hence the photo I posted of him lifting the Superform aluminium roof to illustrate its lightness. Lastly, I was thinking of using your barn storage facility, but have been reliably informed that since you joined NagMog you have filled it full of ponies.

Probably should have said that I think both GTN & Aeromax are absolutely brilliant & shouldn't really be compared as they serve different purposes. The Aeromax was not the factory car & I have say it would be absolutely perfect for a trip to the South of France as a GT car (only the vibration of the rear windows stopped it from being the quietest Morgan ever from an NVH perspective). The GTN I believe has 333bhp (I'm probably wrong) and my only observation was that in the dry one could put the power down much easier but you're probably better doing this on track which is perhaps the best environment for the GTN.
