I'm intrigued by them, but not sold from a transport perspective just yet.

All I am going to say is take a test drive and jump back into your our ICE car, everything suddenly feel so slow and outdated!!

If your daily commutes is less than 200miles, its a no brainer.

The Insane Mode is wonderful...but for how long? No noise, no drama, no real skill involved.

I'd buy one, but not until there are a few more Supercharging points north of the M4/M25.

A typical business trip is Salisbury to York and back with an overnight stay. Without a fast charging point in York it wouldn't be possible.

This is really fascinating stuff. The acquisition cost appears viable but what are the real life cycle running costs in terms of battery life, motor life, servicing costs etc

Battery life is the big unknown, but it is clear that battery costs will be lower in 5 to 10 years than they are now! Tessla gives a 6 year battery warranty.

Other consumable/wear costs should be "normal" (brakes, tyres)and the electric motors should last as long as a normal ICE motor.

Of course engine oil and other consumables will be zero.

Like most petrolheads, i used to be extremely sceptical, nothing beats the sound of the V8!!
But once you're been in it, the quiteness, the smoothness and instant power without the need to wait for the engine to build up revs and the gearbox to change is quite an experience, its almost telepathic!! You think and it goes.

My boy racer days are well and truely over(never much of a boy racer to begin with anyway), all i care about now is looking forward to show a very clean pair of heels to those so called sportcars to boost my ego grin2

The acceleration was mind boggling, I test drove the P85(420bhp), and I can't wait for my AWD P85D to come(691bhp!!)

You could visit the Tesla site and check out their supercharger map.
For your business trip, the following would be your charging route:

Today:
Salisbury -> Northampton SC -> York (Stay somewhere with destination charging)
York -> Northampton SC -> Salisbury

Future: next few months:
Salisbury->Tankersley SC -> York
York -> Tankersley SC -> Salisbury

Tesla allegedly have done a deal with Sainsbury/Tesco and some hotel groups to install their supercharging stations.

Some have actually appeared in Sanisbury already!!

You could now virtually able to go anywhere in Europe for free

ICE cars will still have their place for now, but within next 20years or so, it'll be a relic!!

And some of us will be able to tell our grandchildren, we used to drive such contraption running on dinosaur juice grin2

Tesla actually offer 8 years unlimited mileage battery and drivetrain warranty.

The electric motor is said to be good for 1 million miles!

Very little wear and tear on brake pads and discs due to regen.

Tesla will even honour all warranty work without FSH.
