I've been thinking about chopping in my Caterham and going back to a Plus 8 again for a while and so been watching the market. So few seem to be actually selling, and the same cars seem to be advertised for months on end. There's a couple of quite nice looking 90's cars at Allon White for example, both have dropped in price and both have been for sales for about a year.
I'm actually after a 3.9 pre cat and one I went to see in Birmingham, is still for sale 15 months later. What's going on? Are people just unrealistic in what they are asking and has the market shrunk?

I understanding that new prices are about increase, so this will affect secondhand prices, so they will go up I suspect.

Absolutely Mike and agree that the peak was about 2 years ago. Now, does anyone want to persuade me to sell my R500 and buy their Plus 8.😃

Plus 8's used to be the pinnacle of trads, and even when I was trawling round they were pricy and selling well. But things have moved on and there are alternatives such as the Roadster with galvanised chassis, and stainless bulkhead, and easy up, and so on, so for first time buyers especially, when the price differential is minimal, they will, I suspect favour newer cars.
I still quite fancy an older Plus 8 though, but it would take some persuasion to convince MrsW.

I sold my trad plus 8 in 2012. Prior to selling I was advised that it was worth £33k however when trying to sell I had plenty of offers in the £25k region but did eventupally get £28k when the right buyer came along.
At the time I put it down to the lack of free cash and the more stringent requirements when trying borrow money.
However I have notice good cars still aren't selling in the plus £30k range and its also my belief that the market has changed. After all why should a tidy plus 8 be be worth the same as an tidy early Aero 8.

Going back a couple of years ago I was told prices were firm because a lot of the plus 8s were being exported abroad but possibly as the £ has strengthened against other currencies it has probably just tipped the prices too high.

I did look fleetingly at the plus 8's at Allon White's but saw sense and went for a modern engined Mog with Tb's and lots of scope for upgrading , my caterham service agent has just put R400 cams in !

Culminator, I remember that Plus 8 you had, the Colin Musgrove special. Didn't see it in the flesh, so to speak, but had been watching it on Car and Classic. That was the one, think you swopped it for an Aero, which also looked good. How does the Caterham compare.

I'm not sure how you compare an R500 with a trad plus 8 , they are on different planets ?
