Hi, How can I identify which Ford Kent pre-crossflow engine I have in my 1961 Morgan 4/4? There is a number stamped on the head - N204 but I cannot find a reference to that number anywhere. The car cam with a book for the Ford 105e engine but I'm not sure that is what is actually installed in the car. I have hopes of starting, and hopefully finishing, a restore of the car.
Thanks for your help!
Aidan

A number on the head is a new one to me, I'd look for the block number and start there.

Could you post a photo of the engine?

Thanks for getting back to me. This engine needs a good cleaning before I'm able to find any other numbers on it.

I am no expert on Fords but N24D sounds like a cylinder head casting number to me.

Use Martyn's guide above . However I would have thought that a 1961 car would have a 3 bearing crank , rather than the 5 bearing , so it may pre-date those examples.

Finally got the number cleaned enough for a photo and a camera small enough to get down there.
It's a Ford 105e engine alright.
The stamping is to the right of the motor mount on the left hand side of the engine, immediately below the exhaust manifold.
Thanks for your help with this!
Aidan
