First tried a +8 around 1973 and had a hankering for one ever since. Just had a couple of test drives and I am looking for a nice long door 4.6 +8 for my retirement pleasure.
Hopefully once I have found my car I will be able to contribute a bit more top the various natters.

Having owned one previously, just ensure that it does not run hot when on the motorway. The original MMC ECU was not the best they have fitted and it did require some fine tuning to get the best out of the car.

I understand the best +8 was the later 4.0L version, but I am sure other TM regulars will be willing to comment and advise.

Thanks for the information.
I see that there are a couple of 4.oL cars currently advertised.
I know someone who has a 4.6L with a Tornado chip which I know makes the car more driveable. I would have to take advice from more knowledgable owners on heating issues although I have seen it mentioned before.

The 4.6 has a Hotwire injection system , for which the fuel chip (the ignition is by distributor) used was the same as the 3.9 , so no wonder it ran very weak, and overheated as a result.
This situation is relatively easy to rectify by using the "Tornado" chip, and you will immediately notice the difference , so don't let this put you off . It became such an obvious remedy that many 4.6s have already been chipped, so it may not need doing.

Just a few words of caution about your choice . The 4.6 develops a lot of torque (esp. when chipped) and this can make make it quite a handful in the wet when you have a live axle at the rear. The engine characteristics are such that it just develops more and more torque and is slightly reluctant to rev quickly, so the engine may not appear "lively"
Don't discount the 3.9 Hotwire long door cars, they are very good ( I do own one to be honest, but I hope I am being objective about it). They rev much more willingly and in many ways this is better suited to a sports car (the 4.6 was of course developed for the much heavier Range Rover)
The 3.9 Hotwire cars are also MUCH easier to sort than the later GEMS cars (called 4.0) where you need to chip both the ignition and the fuel, and there are a number of other issues with this much more complex system.

As ever when buying Morgans, don't get too hung up about mileage, it is better that the car is used regularly than stored for long periods. As ever buy on condition every time.

4.6l are notorious for overheating, and you can spend a lot to get it sorted. I had a 4l 1996 with Chip from Mark Adams with sports exhausts on rolling road it produced 225bhp at 1800rpm and stayed there until 5000rpm when it dropped slightly and masses of torque

There is a very tasty 4.0L Plus 8 just ready to be sold by Richard Thorne: should be on their site this evening.

I had a look at it today, cream with green leather and a Simmons hood, complete with leather hood cover. Very civilised.

I agree Peter.have just had a look on rtcc to view the plus 8. She looks lovely.would make a nice pairing with my Ivory white 44 which I bought there last year. ah well rather nice dreaming is it not.

I'm with Andy on the 3.9...
Both are actually the same capacity, just different Efi...
For myself, if I ever went that route (and an early +8 was on the cards as a first Morgan 11 years ago) I'd be quite happy with a 3.5 on carbs...
