Normally they go for the big expensive motors. Here the thieves are mainly from ex eastern block countries. They load them in a van and are out of the country within hours. We had one gang arrested for the second time near here. Locking and bolting engines to the boat doesn't stop them, they just use a chain saw and cut out the transom. One lot used the boatyard forklift and calmly worked under the view of the CCTV camera.

We had our 6hp engine stolen between Christmas and New year a couple of years ago. Two weeks later they came back to the port and stole 5 more. The insurance paid about 1 third of the value of a new engine despite it being near new. I now have it bolted and locked to the boat.

We had friends in Sydney who woke up in the morning to discover their locked garage open and two HD motorcycles had been physically dragged out over the top of their locked car. Must have been at least four very strong men to do that. Not only were the bikes stolen but the car needed a lot of damage repaired and a complete respray.

I had a Z1100 that came with a factory fitted lockable centre stand. Very neat - put the bike on the stand and turn a key.
