Hi Mapman, I ordert also my TW. So I must decide in the next weeks if I want the black or polished engine. The black is probably easier to clean but for me (sorry taste is different) the dull black looks a little bit like plastic and I like more the metal look for this type of car. But I think there is no solution to protect the polished engine for corrosion :-(
I am lucky because the car with this engine is not my car. I shaw this TW parking at the Morgan Company. I hope I will get my car in May and I order it with the bright pack. Perhaps a little bit more work but I hope I can get the shine and protection with ACF 50.
Long time ago (1950's) I commented on a car I saw with chrome plated brake drums. My friend said it was not a smart thing to do because the chrome reflects the heat back int to the drum. Is this true AND would this also be true of a highly polished engine? I leave the answer to the Engineers out there.
Black is good all around, even if the sun will warm a black more, the differential heat loss will still be greater from a black engine than a polished (or white) engine in the sun, and even more so when it's colder out and no sun.
That is true, chrome will dissipate less heat than black, have a look at the heat output from a chrome towel rail radiator then compare it with the output from an identical one in white.
There is quite a difference, that is why I try and steer my customers away from chrome.
