I'm from continental Europe and own a LHD 1985 Morgan 4/4 CVH. I got a new stainless steel exhaust line installed at a dealership recently but there is an issue with it. The tubing is 1cm from the left rear tire wall...Tire rubs on the exhaust in corners. Asked the dealer about this oddity and he told me it's normal but when I look on the Librands website the tubing is shaped to avoid the tire and I'm pretty sure it was the same with the original part. Got the tubing modifyied with a blow torch and a hammer to gain 2cm as the dealer is 600 km away but, anyway, he did advised me first to use a blow torch. I have this strange feeling I have been sold and installed the wrong exhaust line. May I have the community's opinions please? Thanks
(added a picture but as I'm new, not sure if it worked)
Hi Toine and welcome to TM. The photo works ok. It certainly doesn't look correct although I know more about the new models. On those, the pipe kinks inwards just in front of the rear wheel to allow clearance of the tyre. Have you a photo of that area?

That looks like an exhaust from an 1800 ZETEC car with a silencer after the wheel. The extra width of those cars in comparison to the earlier cvh allows them to run this straight set-up.
You need the kink to move the exhaust closer to the chassis.
Personally I don't like rear exit on early models for the proximity reason - seems like poor engineering/heat mgmt..... And who needs to drag around the extra weight in redundant metal.
eheheh yes I thought about the side exhaust but it's my daily driver.
Thanks all, I knew I need the kink but I'm just amazed a dealer installed the wrong one. As it was installed this December, I will try to get a refund. I'm really not happy at all especially as I drive 4/4 quite hard and the tire wall obviously rubs on it.
Also I got a second hand fan rad "good as new" installed last month and it's already shot (bearing noise and variable speed.)
