There is another solution IF you want to retain the current exhaust.
The rub occurs because the axle moves sideways during cornering , you can minimise this by fitting a Panhard Rod. It is a bit overkill I agree , but may save you a 600 km trip.

1970s and 1980s cars had the pipes flattened along two 5 or 6 inch lengths corresponding to the tyre sidewalls. There's a slight reduction in diameter but I suspect no difference in performance.
I suspect the the kink makes it more difficult to align the exhaust system and prevent rattling and contact with the chassis.
If you want photos, let me know.

Just had dealer on the phone and he told me the exhaust he fitted on mine is the factory part number for a CVH engined Morgan and has fitted the same one to all CVH cars. I mentioned the kink as on the Librands system and he replied he doesn't work with them, only with the factory. He offered me to flatten the problematic section next time I'm in his area. He's sending me a new fan rad free of charge. Shall I mail the factory then for an official answer about the exhaust?

Emailing the factory for info about a 30 year old Morgan is unlikely to be of much use. The flats are introduced by flattening one side closest to the tyre leaving the other side completely round. Beware that clamping the pipe in a vice will cause the vice jaws to merely flatten both sides of the pipe which is not what is wanted.
Make sure that the garage uses a former or dolly to maintain the 'round' or get them to use an engineering firm that does pipe work as they should be able to do it.
Alternative is to have a side exiting pipe but that's more of a personal choice.
PM me your email address if you want a photo.

I must have a crystal ball said last week a chap was knocking up some polished s/steel parts for me just phoned him and its not ready ( next week ) . I have a RHD 1986 CVH and it had a s/steel system put on by Mike Duncan . The exhaust slips over and will touch the tyre so I have thought up a bracket the one that fits into the rear part of the chassis with two bolts . I intend to fit this one and the bolt holes have been moved along its flat bar to pull the exhaust over and away from the tyre once the exhaust pipe connection bracket and rubber fitting have all been put back on .

PM me your email address if you want a photo. My local garage already did flatten it a bit by heating it up and using a hammer... I might have gained 2cm of clearance. PMed you about for the picture, thanks. I will take off the wheel on a lift when I get in for the fan rad replacement at my local to see how much rubbing I'm getting now with the axle movements.

Toine, It was my daily car too and the sound was deep but not intrusive. Just a thought.

Toine, It was my daily car too and the sound was deep but not intrusive. Just a thought. LHD or RHD? Mine is LHD, side exhaust would be poking in my ear and I don't know if it could be MOTable. I replaced the original exhaust line because it had holes in the middle box... I thought about just cutting it off and replace it with a pipe but been told it's a NO for continental MOT. BTW the orginal exhaust line had that kink/bend. (dealer said it wasn't an orignal Morgan part but...hey.... the car has always been serviced at his place since 1985.)

Toine, The green CVH 4/4 was rhd as is my present +4 which also has a side pipe. Neither in England nor here in France has that been an issue at MOT time.
