@David Please keep us informed on your chains project. Besides of a complicated cardan shaft solution the good old chain drive will be the best option to have a reliable power transmission.

I am struggling with the notion that a suspension travel alters the tension in the belt, can someone explain this more thoroughly? Attached in the picture, i can see the bevel box sprocket and the axis of rotation of the rear swing arm are in-line on the same axis? Or am i missing something?

Modern "X" ring chains kept clean with a Scott Oiler have a life of, well who knows? I did nearly 30,000 miles on my 1050 Tiger and the chain was still in specification when I sold it. That engine puts out more power than the S&S motor and almost as much torque, but as an in-line 3 the torque is more smoothly spread.

As chain cogs are more widely available , we could have a different rear cog size for sprinting , for racing , for motorway driving etc , instead of being tied to a one size fits all.

No Charles, not missing anything. There's no tension change with suspension movement as the swing arm pivot and the front sprocket are on the same axis. Most bikes have them on separate axes so the tension varies with travel and they have to run their chains apparently quite slack to avoid over tension at the extremes of rear wheel travel. Some also have adjustment for the swing arm pivot position to exploit the change in geometry which can alter how the power is put down on corner exits.
Hi all I must admit I havnt checked this but since having the NVH kit fitted I am pretty sure that the bevel box no longer is on the same axis as the swing arm this is why Morgan run the belt as tight as a bow string? David
