Peter , I wonder wether you should take this up with the Morgan top brass as the quality control here leaves a lot to be desired in such a desirable Mog as yours is. They should be ashamed of themselves . There have been many posts here about quality control and attention to detail at the "Factory". They know that they need to do better and have made progress: the general level of fit and finish on our 2014 Plus 8 is way ahead of the 2009 Roadster. BUT it seems that car audio is something that no one at the factory really understands. They can't get DAB radios to work, yet the answer cost me £30.00. I suspect that they don't believe car audio is very high up owners priority lists. For Traditional Morgans I think they are right but for the Aero based cars, especially the new Aero 8 with its beautiful hard top they need to up their game. It is pointless providing a tablet based system if the rest of the audio installation isn't good enough. I agree Peter, I replaced the terrible speakers in the footwells on my Roadster with JBL's which also have a separate tweeters. I paid £38 for these as end of line sale for 50%. The difference is quite pronounced even in a trad. I too have replaced the Alpine head unit with a JVC dab multi media unit that I already had and simply put in the DAB radio splitter, as you did, and it works great. The Alpine unit is quite good actually and is in the Cooper S now. The speakers that were originally in the car I reckon cost no more than £15 a pair and any reasonable volume resulted in distortion and just weren't worth listening to. I can now cruise and listen reasonably well up to 60-70mph, its not perfect as its not a tin top, but is usable. Come on MMC put some decent speakers in the cars, not cheap rubbish.

Adrian,
Along with Vladimir some of us have discovered that a good audio system in a Mog is part of the pleasure.
As has been said, if you pay £60K to £80K a certain level of sound system is expected.
MMC presently fail to make the grade.
At least replacing the speakers isn't that difficult and is something I enjoy doing. So the footwell speakers are next on the list!

Hi Peter, Glad your pleased with the result so far. I am considering oval rears in the Roadster, I have not looked into the difficulty of doing this yet, but presume it will be seats out and then careful cutting of holes with a suitable coping saw. Maybe speakers in the sides just rear of the door might be better, depends on depth available though. At the same time I would treat the wood floor to some protection and then make thin wood strips for the seat runner to accommodate the protruding bolt, so the seats would then slide properly. I have next week off work so it is up on stands, and a good clean underneath, then make corex inner wing liners and fit, and a general grease up and nut bolt check. As I have already done over 4.5k mile since buying in July, a bit of TLC is in order.

Nice work Peter.... I assume that now you've got this clean and sorted that there are a range of speakers you can now fairly easily insert as you gradually upgrade? Maybe even a power amp back there?

I thought that the bass woofers were those 4 pipes sticking out from under his back bumper?

Nice work Peter.... I assume that now you've got this clean and sorted that there are a range of speakers you can now fairly easily insert as you gradually upgrade? Maybe even a power amp back there? The system is now nicely balanced. I can listen to music or Radio 5 Sports Extra when I want or just enjoy the 4 woofers mounted under the rear of the car, as Jay's advises. The two are not exactly compatible... both have their place. The next "logical" upgrade would be a full power amplifier to drive better quaity speakers and a sub-woofer. To do the job properly is £2000 for hardware and a lot of labour...in an open car I do not think it would be worth the money.
