I am led to believe that in the event of a puncture, or just a worn out tyre that the job of replacement is "dealer only". If the can of goo doesn't help in the event of a puncture, then we're looking at Morgan recovery to get us home.

I feel as if I need to keep my fingers crossed at all times, for that, and all of the other "issues" we're all too aware of.

Anyone had experience yet, either positive or negative ? And is the process of replacing a worn tyre reasonably straightforward ?

It is a bit involved but eminently doable at home. I haven't actually changed the tyre myself but have changed the wheel bearings. Need to get the car securely jacked up pretty high before you can undo the shocks and drop the swing arm down far enough to get the spindle out followed by some juggling with the belt and brake drum.
Good axle stands and a trolley jack help. Bad language is an essential part of the process too.
Working on the basis that a ten minute job takes at least an hour and a half then it's a half hour job. wink

I have not done it myself, but stoof next to Len from BHM whilst he removed the back wheel from mine for sprocket replacment.

He did not have to remove the spindle or undo the shocks!!!

The trick is to back off the adjusters and slide the wheel assembly forward enough to lay the drive belt off of the pulley and to the side. Then slide the wheel back out of the adjuster slots in the swinging arm.

Simples; when someone else is doing it smile

oops forgot, when the back wheel is then to the rear of the swinging arm tilt sideways and remove the spindle, thus freeing the brake drum for removal and leaving with the car.

Place the rear high on jack-stands, place floor jack under wheel, undo spindle nut, slide forward to remove belt, lower jack (carefully) enough to remove backing plate AND TIE BACKING PLATE UP TO NOT STRETCH BRAKE-LINE, lower jack completely and move tire off the jack, then you can pull the bottom of the wheel to the side and out. Hmmm, did I forget anything?

Thanks all. I can see why a major puncture out on a run would be a recovery job though.

There are remarkably few mechanical jobs on any car that don't require bad language and insulting the car's parents.
