The speedo on the Roadster was spot on, compared with GPS on a straight, flat road.
The speedo on the Plus 8, both the analogue and digital, over read by about 5%.
ne thing that MMC culd have done wuld be to have made it posible for the digital display to read either mph or kph. My BMW does this...

Good morning Yorrick and Andrew,
exactly the same with my Speedo. To my information the new VDO speedo can't be adjusted by yourself and the speedo must be back to the factory. So far the information from the main Service dealer in Germany. I bought my car from Williams and ask them to fix it - no response -.
Then I got the information that a Morgan stuff Chris Brid..... should be THE person to fix the problem. I sended a very kind email to the factory to that person and asked for help. - no response -
After that I gave up and will try to get it fixed when I am this summer in the UK during the Thrill on the Hill event.

I think it may be a GDI dash issue or with how my car was put together, I had a number of problems when the car was delivered and being, for Morgan, a new dash setup the dealer didn't have any experience of it and no one at Morgan seemed to have much of an idea either. Happy to confirm that the speedometer on my previous car, a 2004 4/4, was spot on so my comments aren't aimed at Morgans in general simply a problem I have with my car. All my non Morgan cars have had speedometers that have over read because that's what they should do.

Torsten I will be at Thrill on the Hill as well so perhaps we can compare progress and its a good opportunity to talk to senior Morgan staff so that may help as well if we haven't resolved it by then. It's always good to get feedback from owners of the same model car because whenever I have raised an issue with the dealer or factory I am treated as if it's the first time such a thing has happened. To give Morgan credit all the faults to date have been fixed, other than the speedometer, so I am confident this will be sorted as well just not sure when.

It's got to be some sort of configuration error, and the obvious suspect is the tyre data, since the speed readings are going to be sourced from the wheel sensors.
If the rolling radius of the wheels as fitted to the +4 is different from those used to calibrate the speedo, then that could be the source of the problem.
I don't suppose you guys have ordered your GDI's with 16" wheels but they've set the cars up with speedos calibrated for 15", or something daft like that?

Tim I agree it's got to be a calibration issue. I saw the wheel sensor when I was greasing the front suspension and everything looks completely as it should. That's what's frustrating because re calibrating an electronic speedometer should take minutes but I can't access the recalibration menus. Wheels and tyres are standard 15" by 6" , unless opting for stainless wheels has some mystical impact on the rolling radius.

Am I the only one wondering what the bloke who said he was sorting the quality issues are at the factory is actually doing all day?
Not expecting instant fixes and solutions but it's been some time since the issue of none answered emails and lack of customer focus was raised with him.....what changes and procedures have been put in place because nothing much seems to have changed since I had to engage Hereford and Worcester Trading Standards help to get the MMC to sort an issue on my 12 week old +8 back in 2002 that they were ignoring....

It must be enormously frustrating that MMC can't sort this out, as they simply _must_ have access to the recalibration screens in the dash software. They offer the car with 15, 16 or 18 inch wheels, so it's inconceivable that they would do this if they couldn't program the dash correctly.
What car is the dash originally from, by the way? There are loads of YouTube videos on recalibrating Ford speedos, I can understand why MMC don't want customers fiddling about themselves, but it indicates that it's possible to do...

Don't know which car the dash is originally from. I have researched the topic and thought I had cracked it when I located the pdf for what looked exactly like the GDI speedometer. unfortunately the stated process, and I have tried variations, of holding down the speedometer button, turning on the ignition, starting the car and waiting for 3 seconds simply stops all the dash instruments from doing anything. What should happen is a series of modes appear, AutoCL, PuLSE, and Adjust, which you then scroll through and using the PuLSE mode will allow the value to be corrected by entering in the correct numerical value. Let go of the button and wait a few seconds and the job is done. As pressing the button does affect the instruments I know I am getting closer but as its all the instruments either I am doing something wrong, there is another control unit in the dash that I know nothing about or its controlled through the ECU. A mystery that will hopefully be solved soon.

Just picked my +4 up from Newtown Motors after 2 days for service and guarantee work. They repeated that 10 % out on speedometer is, as far as Morgan is concerned, acceptable. Legally that may be true (??) but quality wise for a £45/- car it is rubbish. Morgan's indifference to quality and customer relations is hard to ignore. This topic, was to find out if Morgan can produce new cars with accurate speedos and so far the sample is small and about 50/50. So if there are any others out there with Gdi +4s with accurate, or otherwise, speedos please advise. Lastly, one of the problems on the car was that at about 90 kph the odometer stopped working. Was advised that this had been fixed but, hay ho, it still does not work. One would have thought that repairs would have been checked before the car is returned to the customer. I must old fashioned
