I drove a +4 and a 4/4 Sport in 2009 when I bought new and for me the Sport whilst very busy was more of an enthusiastic driver than the +4 which was more relaxed. So the Sport it was and I thoroughly enjoyed the 24,000miles I did in it.

I got my M3W from Morgan Austria, but a 2nd hand market for Classics is barely existing here - and cars are rather overpriced.
I found +4 and 4/4 in neighbouring countries. All quite interesting for me but each of them a complete traveling day away from home.

My first car was a Triumph Spitfire in the late 70's. I had lots of fun with 70bhp that time. But things have changed and my Honda bike with 118hp is not overpowerd, the Audi's purpose is to bring me from A to B as relaxed as possible and the M3W is fun but nothing for long trips with the beloved one. Those are some reasons I'm investigating for classics.
Seems that the 4/4 is the one with which runs with revs not torque .... that's different to all the other machines I've got.

Spot on with the revs Austrian it is areal engaging drive with lots of gear changes and that is loads of fun. They make a neat luggage rack with spare wheel as well if you had need of either or both for the 4/4 Sport.

But I see Richard that now you have a Plus 8 so, (as I contemplate that too ), how do you find it and why did you change?

A good question meabh - to cut a long story short someone came round the bend too fast and wrote my Sport off for me. The insurance was an agreed value so with cash in hand I returned to Plus 8 ownership, I had one for four years and 25,000mls before the Sport but decided to sell it and be sensible fuel wise in my early retirement. As you can see that didn't last long. Ironically the Plus 8 is a far more relaxed drive I found the Sport egged me on to go faster all the while. I was lucky with the Plus 8 it had 20,000mls on it and had been kept indoors for most of it's life.

If I'm honest a lot of the reason I chose the Plus 8 is for the soundtrack - that and the lazy torque.
As has been said the prices of Plus 8's are good right now if you are tempted. mpg23 for +8 and 44mpg for Sport both driven with enthusiasm.

Austrian - I have the 4/4 Sport with a luggage rack and no spare wheel. Having driven various more powerful Morgans I just love this car as it is really quite pokey - especially when you are driver only on our roads. Lots of responsive fun through the gears that you don't get with more powerful engined cars.

Mine has the Fled gearbox which was a bit not hey when I first bought it at 1700 miles but at 8500 miles it really is not that bad at all so sont dismiss the earlier Sport models, in my opinion. Proof is in the test drive!

My brother had a Mk3 Spitfire & I think the 4/4 Sport is closest to that.

The base car comes with a flat back panel and the spare is an option. Any car with the "sport" designation will have no fitted spare wheel. As mentioned, if you go for a "Sport" model, you can fit a luggage rack that takes a spare...although you then lose the luggage carrying ability. The nice thing about these cars is the stowage slot for the side screens.

I too love my Sport. Coming up to four years since I bought it, and I'm just as keen on it as on the day I took delivery. I have absolutely no interest in replacing it with a larger Morgan or indeed any other sports car.

For me the 4/4 Sport represents everything that a sports car should be. It's light and small engined and you need to rev the nuts off it to achieve rapid progress, and it's so pretty that you are forever being complimented on it. What's more, its' cheap to run and cheap to insure.

Richard is right - I do have a rack (which I only use when we go touring) but the lack of a spare wheel has never been an issue for me - I don't have one on my MINI either.
