Hello All,
I was wondering if anyone has had my problem?
After fitting a new fuel sender unit in my garage I went to take the car out For a run, only to find that the transmission train had locked up somewhere! I've looked at all the obvious causes such as a stuck clutch plate, but that seems to be working normally,
The gearbox seems to select gears normally too I suspect a gearbox/ selector problem but before stripping anything down I thought I would see if anybody had experienced a similar problem!

Hi Johnml & welcome to TM.

I'd be willing to bet it's not that gearbox. Mazda went to town with proving them, and I've never heard of one going yet!

Unfortunately, I'd be looking towards the rear bevel box as being the culprit. Does the car roll in neutral at all..?

Silly question time, you didn't drop anything down there when you were doing the sender did you..?

I was going to suggest that but it seemed a little too obvious.

The transmission has nothing to do with the fuel sender. At least that's granted.

To find advise you should describe your problem in more details.
Does the rear wheel block completely?
Does the rear brake disengage?
etc...

BTW: Welcome to TM!

Thanks for the replies chaps!
Yes I thought something might have jammed inthe pulley belt too, but all appears ok.
I can rock the car back and forth and the rear wheel moves slightly as it takes up the backlash in the bevel box and drivetrain. Clutch works fine but as I let up the peddle the engine would eventually stall if I don't depress the clutch Again.
The reason I think the problem lies in the gearbox is that if I select a gear and don't push the gear lever fully home it will jump out when I rock the car back and forth. I think my next move is to take off the gearbox covering and check the gear selector mechanism as I think it might be stuck in two gears. I will keep you posted. Cheers! johnml

I'd be suspicious of the bevel box too.
Shouldn't take much to disconnect the prop shaft to see if it's the bevel box before going delving in to the gear box.
