Is that "original" jap engine non-interference? And how much real power (torque and HP) does it put out?

And also, how much weight do we need to shed off of the five-speeder to get as good performance as the original two-speeders - 150kgs?

Probably add about 300kg to get back to the two speeder performance. Different if you are talking about a two speeder that has a state of the art modern day race tuned, methanol burning engine

"State of the art"? The ones I have seen have Jap engines, so even if altered to run methanol, I wouldn't call them "state of the art" by any stretch. We are talking a design dating back about 100 years. Or perhaps I'm missing something.

The "state of the art" refers to the current level of tune that is achieved on what appears to be a 90 or 100 year old engine. The people building them have had a long time to get them to that level and I rather suspect that the output that can be achieved today would simply not have been possible back in the day.

Still, I wonder how much weight you'd have to shed if you bought new "original" jap engine as suggested to get the same performance as the two-speeders currently have.

What I mean to say, is that if swapping for an engine with less potential, how much weight would you have to shed to even be comparable to the two-speeder they use these days.

I may be wrong, but I'm willing to bet that for the same input of man hours (and perhaps money) one could get a more powerful S&S engine than one could by swapping the whole thing for a Jap engine.

It would take a fair bit of engineering to get the JAP to mate up to the M3W, definitely easier and cheaper to get a fair bit more power fro the X-Wedge and if you really wanted an engine swap then perhaps looking to other bike engines would be the way to go?
There are various big Japanese V twins and then if you really wanted a challenge how about a Ducati V-twin or even the desmosedici?
By challenge I think I mean recreational impossibility!

Anyone else in touch with Krazyhorse?

I spoke to Paul at GFoS in 2013 and he said then that they were developing Stage 1, 2 and 3 setups, presumably for MMC and he also had an early example of the JAP cast rocker cover, which looked good then. Last summer I saw their demonstrator which wore custom pipes (beautifully made) which were the same 2.5" OD but straight through but without an absorption silencer section, with just the slightest perforations lining all along the length. Sounded good and I tried to buy a set, plus JAP rockers, there and then. However I was told they were not for sale, which was a shame. They had a stack of JAP rockers in boxes too....

Thanks R1NGA - we wait to see what develops smile
