I packed it up this year after 23 years because, as many have said here, the magazine is rubbish. If there were more technical articles in and an electronic version was offered for a membership discount, I'd consider rejoining.

Interesting thread and currently 33% saying they won't renew, with a number of others giving it one more year.

No longer in any Land Rover clubs, but counts with Lancaster for insuring my Defender 90...

My experiance with a local Centre was a waste of time.

If you did not fit with the "Ruling Junta" - Then "Bye, Bye".

A number of "free spirit" local members were very nice and generous people, but most quietly complied with those in charge.

Totally agree with you Jay, the centres are superb and keep the club going, it's the tiers above them that need a rethink on direction and communication with the grass roots membership.

I thought it might give a view of what is happening, it looks like a sliding majority, so if things continue as they are if this is generally reflective of MSCC membership then the club could face loosing 50% of its members over the next 2 years I suspect. A shame that they are not in touch.

The club which became MSCC was formed by a group of owners who were into competative events, and I believe that it remained so for many years.

I joined in 2003 for the same reasons as Graham (except for the marshalling bit!). I also wanted to find out as much as possible about the cars and about the club. In the end I had a long wait of five years before buying my first Morgan.

What struck me right from the start was the few technical articles, and the large number of holiday trips and dining out events. What also struck me as odd, was the number of adverts for used Morgans in a magazine where most of the readers would have a Morgan already. And to be honest, the coverage of racing etc which I really don't have much interest in, but is what the club started out as being all about.

One or two staunch and active old members (which I got to know) have left in recent years because they felt that MSCC had become a dining club rather than a competition based club, and this shift reflects the modern buyer who is often retired, and has little interest in DIY maintenance or competition. A consequence (probably) of Morgan going upmarket.

We attended a Yorkshire Centre mid week lunctime gathering last year, and it was well attended and an enjoyable trip out, although we wouldn't do it too often because we prefer the open road early in the mornings! The Yorkshire Centre subs are £5 p.a., and I'm quite happy to part with that, to be kept in touch with what's going on locally.

I'm in my first year of membership and while I am not impressed with the "Mother" club I am with the centres. I have joined Anglemog and they have been most welcoming despite holding the noggins at a golf club I have so attended Fossilmog and again was made most welcome. I had a great time at LMC last year thanks to Quentin and Wendy, all at the hotel made myself and my brother very welcome, TOTH was amazing and so was the open day at the factory. So I will continue with membership and hope that Peter brings about some improvement in the magazine

I sent a cheque away last month but wonder why Jan's miscellany lay till the end of Feb before I looked at it . I had read Dave's page the day it arrived . I noticed I have been doing that for a long time flick the pages over read the for sale bit at the rear then throw it down . I have to force myself to read it and thought it was just me its about as interesting as a wet fart. If this new classic car club shows to be what I think then I doubt I will renew next year after 29 year.
