For what it's worth I have become increasingly disillusioned with the larger one make classic car clubs. They start off well enough, populated with enthusiastic owners but then seem to grow arms and legs, with funds channeled into pension contributions for employees and interest free loans for directors, huge annual travel expense claims for officers etc. rather than being spent on tooling for rare parts and the like. Driving trips out end up migrating to dinner dances and boring lengthy lunches and so on. Many members don't know anything at all about the history of the marque or in many cases how an engine works but they have bought into the 'lifestyle' aspects. The club then needs to be all things to all men and this is even more impossible to achieve with makes like Morgan and Jaguar where all new models are immediately incorporated which brings its own problems. This is highlighted at classic car shows where the displays are high proportion of new and nearly new cars!

Steve, The SpotMog membership, free last year incidentally, currently £5, covers running costs which include postage, web site, regalia, and deposits for members organising our events. There are hidden cost that are born by members in organising events, such as petrol and accomodation. Again why use the the phrase "tax", we have enormous good will in our group, with members putting themselves out for the common good, which is very much appreciated. George www.spotmog.co.uk Well put George, and as a founder member of the golf section, we meet, play golf and chat about our cars and interests. Its not compulsory to join, but we have a good number of Spotmoggers who have participated and enjoyed the events. Neil
