It was mentioned in another topic that the company is closed the whole week after the easter weekend. I find it very uncommon for a company of that size to be completely closed for a week during the year. Is that normal in the UK?
Does that mean something?
Any thoughts or even further information?

It's a good way to manage employee holidays particular in manufacturing
Very common in the UK for small to medium sized manufacturers that require skilled labour and don't have the size of workforce to cover all holidays

They also close for a whole week in the summer and close at lunchtime every Friday.
As we know Morgan aren't like other car companies!

Stewart,
we know that only from small manufacturers, often when the owner goes for holiday, the staff has to do the same because there is no substitute.
In propper companies, you need to have holiday planning to cover that and a training plan to have one, better two substitutes for each position. Strange to me.
But you think that there is nothing to worry about, thats good.

Are you saying Morgan isn't a proper company? Seems to have lasted a lot longer than some "proper" companies.

It is quite common even big firms did it though not in the UK.
When my present company merged out of various companies including BASF Drucksystema the BASF sites in Italy & Spain shut for 2 weeks. The Italian site produce c 60,000 t pa of ink & resins so not small fry.
As I am VP Ops they now stay open.

that is the way I organice things here as well and, since we work with BASF, I can tell you, the german plants that I know do it in the same way.

A small company we are (9 staff) I make it compulsory within the employees contract that we all take 2 weeks at Xmas. Full shut down.

I'm aware of that as well. My thinking is, they don't do themself a favour. There is allways a competitor that is available and willing to jump in..
