Hello All.. After months of wondering whether to change my 2011 roadster sport for a new plus 4 and enjoy the benefits of a nimble car i have now ruled this out as i would miss the power, I have now beamed in on the new roadster, has anyone done a similar change, does the 3.7 win over the 3.0 in all respects or are there downsides, is the new car noticebly faster.

Hi, I moved from a Plus 8 to 3.7 Roadster, I did test drive a very nice Plus 4 Sports Tourer but the power did it for me. I also drove several 3l Roadsters, the 3.7 wins on power, gearbox and steering. If getting a new one insist the new ECU is included, it sorts the Rev hang. If used then allow £1800 to get factory or dealer to fit. I trailed the new ECU for MMC. The 3.7 is very quick!

I have a 3.0 litre 2011 Roadster - and a Morgan "expert" said "Never sell it"!
Good Luck

Agree the 3.7 is quick and I did test drive the car before deciding on my plus 4. The plus 4 was just so much more responsive and felt like a sports car rather than a powerful but lazy grand tourer. If the revised ECU now sorts the Rev hanging and lack of immediate engine response that put me off then the 3.7 would be a fantastic car.

Thanks Adrian. the ecu issue is interesting, do you think that insisting on new ecu would ruin my bargaining power with a dealer or would morgan pay for this on a new car. also i take it you are pleased with the car.

I do not know what the position is on the ECU on new 3.7s, you'd have to ask MMC, but if your buying one I would have thought you have the bargaining power.
I am very pleased with it, I may make some minor suspension mods in the future but that's just me, always tinkering.

gatewright,
you will not regret that descision. Once used to the power of a stronger car, it's hard to go back to less. The 3.7 is really a capable beast. The power to weight ratio is better than most cars and the engine hat torque as well for a relaxed drive, if required. But most of the time the power will overwelm you. Had some fun yesterday in the black forrest area chasing a group of 911's. They have little better traction out of bends, but it takes the Turbo to be better on acceleration. Just to show you how good the car is..

Beltempo, thats sounds like a good day you had,it would seem like theres a substantial amount of extra power compared with the 3.0. by the sound of it you are happy with your car, how do you feel regarding the rev hang.

The Roaster is pure fun on the small hilly roads in our area. I'm aware of the rev hanging, but got used to it very fast and it does not interfere my driving. You simly take back the trottle half a second earlier for shifting, thats it. Engine braking is also a litte delayed, but the brakes are strong enough to cover that.
You will like it.
