Come and see the spaniels again Adrian
Anyway back to the engine bottom, were's DaveW I am sure he can give me some sensible advice even if you lot can't. He did, top of page 2 (assuming 10 posts per page) a couple of posts before you made this query... All I would do with that is a lick of aluminium paint. Nothing more. Lacquer won't stay on very well, it's a hostile environment, assuming the oil gets hot...........

Indeed... the car in question did go to North Cape. Some really rough surfaced roads there. Are you writing from experience or is this supposition? Based upon the route we took to the North Cape, this completely misrepresents the state of the roads. Any damage caused by winter freeze/thaw was in the process of being repaired. The only rough surfaces we encountered were where the surface had been removed prior to replacement, or the road was under construction. Some of the best roads were in the far north between Alta and the North Cape.

I thought the main roads were in excellent condition when we went to the Nordkapp, but we did have to travel through some roadworks on route which were less than kind, now if your Mog was being booted through them it may explain a thing or two? Probably the worst stuff was north of Oslo for us of and the private gravel road to the Fäviken in Sweden (we took a side trip especially) we ended up driving our cars under the barriers with mm to spare (saved getting out!)
Some of the back roads near to Williams could also be responsible?

So another go underneath, a clean with some wheel cleaner and the a polish up. A bit of an improvement.

If you REALLY want to get the engine clean and bright you need to invest in a small bit of kit from these people... Its a Blast! The media is soft and water soluable, so there is no possibility of any gritty bits getting where they are not wanted... I have had a play with the machines, the result can be quite addictive... it wuld be easy to get the full length of the exhaust looking bright!

What did you use? Peanut butter and left the hound to it I think Harry would object to being called a hound, he is a truly refined Irish Red Setter, and next time I see you I will ensure he gives you a big lick.

Some would say; slightly more refined than his owner! I now have a special pair of "Harry trousers", which I wear when I visit Adrian. Harry is glorious and pays me a lot of slobbery attention. Mind you, Adrian makes a pretty decent mug of tea, so a visit is always a pleasure.
