Get the Harvey`s Map of the route - and the Hadrian`s Wall walk book - both very useful - not just to keep you on the right path but also for points of interest which you might otherwise miss.
By the way if you find two toenails near Wallsend - they`re mine!!

Thanks for all the advise. The weather is a big concern for us. In Mississippi we are used to walking in 100+ F, but if it gets below 70F I need heated underwear.

Bring that stuff with you, we only hit 70 f about twice a year usually at Xmas
