My wife and I will be doing the Hadrian's Wall walk in early June. I would appreciate any advise as to weather conditions, etc.
thanks,

A few years ago I rasn the whole length -76 miles at the rate of a marathon a day for three days - very enjoyable - but would advise taking plenty of time as there is so much to see. Go prepared for everything - breathable waterproofs layers of thermals and good comfortable waterproof boots - it can get very boggy and rough underfoot. Then again you could have a drought with blazing hot weather - this is the North of England. No such thing as bad weather - just the wrong clothes . ENJOY!!

I live 20 mile away from it came past West to East on Monday . YOU NEED GOOD BINOCULARS small but very very powerful if not you will regret it the rest of your life the veiw's are stunning and have little changed on the west side since the Romans . The weather can change very very quickly often a strong wind so be prepared and carry water and no toilets HINT HINT . Look out for the Robin Hood tree , and the remains of Roman forts in the ground as you walk it. You will find pubs for a beer and food as you walk buy an O.S. map . If you are camping good luck if you are doing B&B plenty farm houses and pubs if you have plenty of time stray off into Hexham they have an abbey with a 1300 year old Saxon crypt ( google it ) along with a very old prison built in the 1300s . Once you get into Newcastle the wall is hard to find . Go onto the quayside under the bridge look for Trinity house near Dere street ( ancient road ) and the Castle above. Near wallsend ( a place in Newcastle ) on the river bank is a roman village parts been built a few year ago as it was ( ask for the Swan Hunter ship yard area ( its gone now ) . At North Shields you can catch a ferry over the Tyne and walk to another Roman fort and town this was a roman one built up a few year ago as it used to be. You may find the dialect hard to understand as it goes back many many 100s of years . But the people are great you can't shut them up once they start.

Get the Harvey`s Map of the route - and the Hadrian`s Wall walk book - both very useful - not just to keep you on the right path but also for points of interest which you might otherwise miss. By the way if you find two toenails near Wallsend - they`re mine!!
