Are the bleeder nipples a standard size and what would that size be? I am in the middle of changing the rear tyre and really appreciate the write up Calum has done. Many thanks SIR!

Here is perhaps a better question, who makes the rear brake assembly?

In knowing that then it’s associated parts should be fairly easy to source.

Managed to find a note of the speed bleed nipples I fitted. They were marketed as Goodridge Speed Bleeder Nipples but probably came from this lot;
for the front calipers it was 4x the 10x1mm size
and for the rear 1x the 7x1mm size

and you're very welcome!

I would add that I take no responsibility for skint knuckles, cursing, swearing, general bad language and broken marriages. Other than my own of course.

Speedbleeder in the mail now and tyre out and sitting in the boot of the mini along with the new tyre going to shop tomorrow to get it changed.

OEM tyre is not a symetrical trad pattern and the new one is. Might help.

Tire installed, new vulgar words found, still don’t understand why MMC used an asymmetrical tread pattern.

Tip, save yourself some grief and mess by having a plug and cap on hand to cap off the brake line and plug the hole in the backing plate.

Question: is there a torque spec for the axle nut?

No torque spec, just take it to seriously tight then tighten till a castellation lines up with the hole in the spindle.
Used a torque wrench once to get an estimate of the torque required and it came to about 180ftlb.

I used a 24” crescent wrench on the nut and it took some real effort to loosen it so I did not want to over tighten it when putting it back. Thanks Calum.

You don't need to disconnect the brake line to take the rear wheel out, there should be enough slack if you undo the p-clip on the swing arm, then when you pull the wheel back remove the brake backplate and lay it on something of convenient height under the car.
