I've just bought some new wooden frame parts for my 1981 4/4, as the originals were rotten. I've taken the car to bits to respray it and am mending some bits and pieces I've discovered. Anyway, I now have the new ash parts (all around the door frame both sides, from the dash board to the hood frame) and the wood doesn't seem to be treated. I clearly want this wood to last as long as possible so what does anyone recommend I treat it with? Someone mentioned linseed oil. Any suggestions?

The frames have been dipped in Cuprinol since 1986. I would suggest their product as an ideal choice. Look in the Wood Preservers section http://www.cuprinol.co.uk/products/products_treatment.html

I have just replaced the same ash body parts and i made a trough out of some rough timber and 1000 gauge polythene sheet to soak the parts in. Its amazing how mush cuprinol they soaked up. After leaving them to dry thoroughly i coated them with a clear marine yacht varnish. The cuprinol that i got was a clear odourless one.
Addicted to Morgans. 44 years and still not cured.

How well did the varnish take after the fresh cuprinol? Been thinking about re-treating some of the exposed plywood in the rear...

Julf, I believe the factory soaks the parts in cuprinol under pressure to force the stuff into the grain quickly. I geuss therefore you need to leave it soak for longer. On my car the plywood wheel arches are covered in underseal, now 12 years old they appear sound. John

cuprinol sounds good but I would lay off the clear varnish I and most other boat owners realised that it is better to leave the wood breathing ,nice wooden deck scrubbed a few times a year lasts 30 years, Same is true of the morgan I believe.

While you are at it, get enough to do your shed and fence too... Enjoy it while you can. It is rare to be able to do three jobs with one tin of anything.
