Well it wasn't meant to be an official policy statement on behalf of my party campaign

Just a quick response to describe my leanings to more creative and daring social and environmental solutions to complex real world problems instead of pandering to the political class and the obvious

One is reminded of the fuel crisis in Britain in the 70's when the UK government set a maximum spend at a fuel station of £5

What happened

Well everyone went out that evening to fill up to spend their £5 maximum - queues at stations and the UK ran out of fuel at the pumps in 48 hours

Not very clever but seemed the obvious thing to for the government to do

What did the Irish government do ?

They thought outside the box and imposed a MINIMUM spend at the pumps
What happened?

Nothing much - very few people could fill up as they already had fuel in their tanks

Everyone rode around happy as normal using up their petrol that they already had and Ireland was awash with fuel

Clever

Reminds of the ploy that Kemal Ataturk used in his attempts to secularise and modernise Turkey. He knew he could never get women to abandon the veil by banning it, so he made the wearing of it mandatory - for prostitutes...

Yes. The numbers of classic cars are tiny and the exhaust from modern cars is often cleaner than the air going into the engine. The main culprit these days is trucks ( but we need them) and busses. I wonder if Paris will cut back all the old smelly diesel busses

Boris of London wants to do exactly that.
But he also wants to ban old gasoline cars.
(Are there any classic diesel cars? I hope not!).

Madness

Madness 2

If it is old enough to not pay car tax it should be exempt.
