Well done Mario, your persistence paid off. Now for the exhausts themselves eh.....

Perfect timing for the spring in Portugal!!
Must say that it looks better symmetrical and wrapped than asymmetrical!!

Of course they would never admit that the actual design was changed to avoid putting too much heat on the indicators!
As is often the case change one thing and it can have repercussions elsewhere.

Thanks all. I think good old XF14AEF is finally reaching the "sorted" status, with two "work in progress" exceptions: - rear sprocket - the "deceleration chirping noise" started last summer and has been getting steadily worse. As it was confirmed now with an inspection made at the dealer according to my specific request, because I already knew, from reading about it here, what that noise meant (you guys have no idea how valuable the information exchange within TM members is valuable for someone like me, pretty much alone in this southwest corner of Europe). So ... a new sprocket (steel this time) will be requested under warranty and hopefully delivered and fitted soon. - exhausts - I'm still waiting, and with the continuing use of my M3W (I won't make the mistake of having it parked for months while under warranty) ALL the exhausts previously used are by now either cracked or cracking. However, there's hope, because MMC has informed my dealer, after my "voicing" became louder and sterner, of the following (and I'll quote): "The latest exhaust silencers for the Brooklands M3W are still being manufactured to the latest specification, these are not due for delivery into the factory until week commencing 25th January." So, MMC suggested a "temporary repair" of my exhausts, allowing me to keep on using my M3W. Something being done now, and that's why I took the opportunity to change the faulty header and wrap both headers. Again, I have no idea what this "latest specification" might be, but I'll take and mount into the car whatever they send me. If it works, fine, if it doesn't, we will rewind and restart the process once again. Ah, the pleasures of Morgan 3 wheeler ownership

While it certainly won't do a lot, wrapping the header ought to dampen the vibrations a bit. The exhausts on the vintage one vibrate like crazy, but I added a further mount as a vibration steady. Would not take any weight, but it's not intended to. Might be worth musing.

Here in Detroit packaging engineers call that a "production variance" it was the reason that in the 1970's with some small, v-8 engined cars, you had to pull the engine to change the back 2 spark plugs!

Mario, It's good to hear that progress is being made. Is it worth getting an additional flexi section welded into each pipe forward of the silencer? Like G56 have now done with their pipes.

Hi Calum, it's being considered for the "temporary fix" and I also wonder if that's what the "factory latest specification" brings. We have a saying here that goes like this (in rough translation): "For every problem there is a solution, and for every solution there is a problem". So the G56 solution poses its own problem in this case (Brooklands M3W), and that is: you can't place a flexi joint rightin front of the silencer because ... right in front of the silencer you have a mount. Check these pictures: NORMAL CAR (picture originally posted by VSpec) BROOKLANDS VERSION (picture originally posted by Gambalunga) So, a new flexible section, if you respect the mounts placement, will have to be placed a few cms forward, well into the pipe's length and in no way "half-concealed" by the silencer's cover, as it happens with the G56 version. In any case, I'll take this slight aesthetics annoyance any day if my only other option is a continued breaking of exhausts (every couple of 1000 kms)
