Hello to you all, My 1990 Morgan Plus Four has still the original stoplight switch at 178,000 miles. I also have two extra stoplights fitted for safety reasons and I have no problems with this switch.
I learnt from my visits to the Lucas dept. in Gateshead (Now sadly gone) that the powers to be changed their suppliers to China from where their problems started.
The Lucas part number is SPB 401 and also Intermotor 5610. Disregarding advice I purchased one from Lucas and kept it in the car for a spare just incase. It was used on 3 cars over a short time as I asked the unlucky ones to just replace it with a new one. You can replace the switch with care while out and about for to keep safe on our busy roads. I also had to replace the fuel pump when a tiny piece of solder was picked from from the fuel tank and jammed the pump which was Bosch unit with a Lucas pump that had a cone filter built in. No more problems.
