Dolph have you removed the baffles yet? I think thats the place to start. That made a real big difference on my car.

The bafflers are much more restrictive than the cats. If you do not remove the bafflers, you will loose the cat function but win nearly nothing.

maybe I will just drill out that first baffle, and leave the cats be?

The third baffle is the easiest of the three to reach. It can be removed with a 37 mm hole saw, possibly a 38 mm one. Just removing this gave a much deeper, nicer sound without beeing much louder. Engine feels "perkier". Less pinking, too.
The front baffle hides deep within the muffler, you need two extensions to reach it from the front, after taking the exhaust off the car. I have not removed it, for noise reasons, but I have drilled four holes in it to let more gas out quicker. Definitely louder, but none of my neighbors have complained yet. The consensus seems to be "wow, it sounds great!". Almost no pinking left.
The middle baffle is untouched so far. It can be reached from the end of the exhaust with two extensions, without even removing the exhaust from the car.
Now working on an air intake of my own design. The K&N filter just doesn't cut it.
M3W, now!!!

Baffles=muffler or silencer?
If so, unless MMC has taken to fitting a coffee can complete with the grinds intact..as opposed to a modern silencer...then removing either won't add to performance.
Basically, baffles and cats were thought to be restrictive, the more back end pressure, the harder the engine works to expel burnt gasses. But, as I said, modern exhaust components have virtually eliminated this, back end pressure is negligible in higher performance exhaust components.
Taking the cat off will result in increased smell and smoke. Taking the baffles out...if they serve the same function as a US "muffler" will result in more exhaust noise, which may or may not be desirable (but certainly harmless).
This is one of those things I have experience with on cars, including before and after instrumentation..and the performance change was non existent. The increased noise, rising with acceleration, made it FEEL faster, but that was aural, not actual.
Bottom line: +1 for removing baffles, -1 for removing cat.

But, as I said, modern exhaust components have virtually eliminated this, back end pressure is negligible in higher performance exhaust components. Which is EXACLY what the M3W exhaust isn't - the stock exhausts are so horrifically restrictive that they can risk damaging the engine if you constantly bang into the pinking/pre-ignition. Knock the baffles out of the stock exhaust by all means, but it will be horribly loud in my view (the baffles are all that's in there to keep the racket under control), but it will improve performance, as the restriction is progressively removed. Nasty solution in my view however, but each to their own of course

Does anyone know if the Stage 1 AR Motorsport Upgrade Kit is ordered when purchasing the M3W (hence, factory-fitted), are the baffles removed or does the kit have no influence on the exhaust at all?

What I have found out with opening up the exhaust is that the throttle response is improved, just breathes better. I found the exhaust loudness is based now on the gas petal position. The more you push on the gas petal the louder the exhaust noise is. If you putt-putt around it's not that much louder than stock but if you floor it, you know it now!
still quieter than any Harley Davidson bike.

I have got the Mog stage 1 kit fitted and I think there are only few restrictions inside the pipes. Far better breathing and fun to drive. Some additional noise too... As far as I know: it is a completely different exhaust than standard.
